Man dead after officers fire at suspects in car theft

Little Rock police have identified the officers involved in the early Tuesday morning shooting death of a man they say tried to hit them with a car.

Police say Officers Joshua Black and Eric Temple fired 10 to 12 shots at a stolen car driven by Lance Stucker, 30. Officers say Stucker was struck in the chest, but was able to leave the car and run a short distance. He died after arriving at a Little Rock hospital.

Police found the other two suspects - Rodney Warren, 22, and Josh Black, 31 - hiding under a nearby house. Warren had been shot in the stomach and was taken to the hospital. Black was taken to jail.

Both officers have been placed on paid leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation. Investigators say this is the third time Black has been involved in a police shooting.

"We did not find any weapons in the vehicle. They were attempting to back over the officers. That was their intention," Little Rock police Lt. Terry Hastings told television station KATV. "It wasn't a case of trying to get away. They were intending to hit the officers with that vehicle. That's why the officers fired their weapons."

Police were working an area of southwest Little Rock that had recent car burglaries. Police put items in a bait vehicle and then waited.
