Report: Arkansas manufacturing sector loses nearly 7,000 jobs in year

The number Arkansas manufacturing jobs fell 2.8 percent since last August, according to the Arkansas Manufacturers Register, an industrial guide published annually.

The guide, published by Manufacturers' News Inc. of Evanston, Ill., shows the state lost 6,886 manufacturing jobs in that time, continuing the downward trend the state has seen in the last few years.

MNI data shows Arkansas lost 15 percent of jobs in the manufacturing industry since 2001 - a total of about 41,000 jobs.

MNI data shows Arkansas is home to 4,130 manufacturers employing 228,800 workers. The food industry has nearly a quarter of the state's manufacturing jobs, with poultry processing accounting for most of those jobs.
