Slim pickings

— Usually we reserve this space for reviews of new light foods. But this week, we're going retro with two old-school frozen foods we haven't eaten since the 1980s. If we had realized how fast, easy and not-that-fattening they are, we wouldn't have waited so long.

Steak-umm: These paper-thin sheets of cheesesteak-style beef (120 calories, 10 g fat) are just the way we remember them, if a little more ambitious.

The box actually suggests consumers use them in shepherd's pie and chop suey, as if anyone needs to gets more creative with Steak-umms than pan-frying them for 90 seconds and serving on a bun (try light) with some cheese (try reduced-fat) and maybe some cooked onions and peppers.

Superpretzel: You mean all this time, the only thing that has separated us from a love of chewy, warm soft pretzels is 160 calories, 1 g fat and 30 seconds in the microwave? We feel like we've been reunited with an old friend - an organized one; Superpretzels (6 per box) even come with their own handy packet of salt.
