OPAL M. ABBOTT ADAMS, 93, of Jacksonville went to be with herHeavenly Father on Thursday, May 15, 2008, after a long battle with breast cancer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hershel; son, Gary Adams; parents, James and Alice Abbott; three brothers, Monroe,Lewis and Bill Abbott; daughter-inlaw, Patricia Adams; and two special sisters-in-law, Sybil Abbott and Louine Abbott. She is survived by her son, Jimmie Adams of the home; six grandchildren, Strawberry Adams, D.J. and Kenneth Harlan of Gravel Ridge, Brittany Blaylock (David) of Springfield and Brad (Starla) Adams of Morrilton, Destini Lindsey; five great-grandchildren, Paris and Diamond Adams, Gavin and Hannah Blaylock and Ainsley Adams; and many nieces, nephews and friends who will miss her dearly.

She was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church and, until she was unable, was very active in church activities. She was a member of the Eastern Star. Her grace and manners made no one a stranger and always made you feel you were her special guest and she was there just for you.

EMOGENE LANGLEY BEARD, 78, of Jacksonville, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2008. She was a member of Harmony Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter and son, Regina Conrad (Robert) of Jacksonville and Jerry Russell Langley (Belinda) of Jacksonville;a sister, Sadie Langley of Conway; two brothers, Ira Williford of North Little Rock and Verble Williford of Texas; five grandchildren,Chris Langley, April Langley, Lacey Hanna, Tyler Conrad and Tamara Blanchard; eight great-grandchildren, Spencer Langley, Abbeygayle and Isabel Ramirez, Taylon McReynolds, Bryson and Addyson Hanna, Mackenzie and Morgan Blanchard. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Bell Williford; her husband, Russell Langley; five brothers; and one sister.

HOPE WADSWORTH GILLIAM died May 1, 2008. She was born to J.M.and Frances Wadsworth in Tulsa, Okla., on April 29, 1928. She studied English Literature at the University of Kansas where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. El Dorado, Ark., was her home when she met AirForce Capt. Julian Gilliam on a blind date during a college break. They were married April 15, 1950, and had recently celebrated their 58th anniversary.

Following marriage, Hope found an outlet for her prodigious creativity in painting. After the Gilliams moved to Little Rock in 1964, she continued to mature as an artist and studied at UALR as well as the Arkansas Arts Center. She garnered numerous awards for her work. Her paintings and prints have been acquired by private collectors across the country. Several museums have also purchased Hope's artwork. Subsequently Julian retired and they began to travel extensively. During this time Santa Fe, N.M., became a second home, where Hope blossomed in the artistic community and made many close friends.

She died peacefully at home almost three years after experiencing a massive stroke. The family would like to acknowledge the dedication, loving care, and friendship given by Debra Anderson, Rudy Grimes and Theresa S. Vogelpohl, MNSc, RN, thus allowing Hope to remain in the home she loved.

She is survived by her husband, Julian; daughters, Betsy and her husband David Trapp of Lawrenceville, Ga. and Julie and her husband Peter Roth of Boston, Mass. Grandchildren include Betsy's children, Maria Trapp of Herndon, Va., Becky Trapp of Long Island City, N.Y., and Davey Trapp of Lawrenceville, Ga.; and Julie's children, Ellen and Chris Roth of Boston, Mass.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, May 24, 2008, at 1 p.m. in St. Mark's Episcopal Church at 1000 N. Mississippi St. in Little Rock, Ark.

ANDREW JACKSON SR., 77, of Little Rock, Ark., was called hometo be with the Lord on the Morning of May 14, 2008. He was born May 2, 1931, in Lake Village, Ark., to the late Horace Sr. and Mary A. ANN WILSON PARNELL went to be with her Lord May 14, 2008, at theage of 86.

JUNE M. PHILLIPS, of Little Rock, the youngest daughter of Norma and Edward Johnson, passed away May 15, 2008. She was born June 12, 1925, in Rockford, Ill.

At 82 years of age, she leaves behind her loving husband of 62 years, Robert J. Phillips, her daughter, Laura Phillips, of Santa Monica, Calif., two granddaughters, Amira and Amal Gebba, also of Santa Monica, and the loving memory of her sister, Blanche Johnson, and baby brother, Richard.

June loved her home and taking care of her family. She enjoyed flowers, dolls, angels, and her dogs. She was a graduate of East Rockford High School and attended Rockford College. After their marriage upon his return from WWII, she was instrumental in putting her husband through the University of Illinois.

A Vigil Service will be held Sunday, May 18, 2008, at 7 p.m. with Deacon Dan Cashman officiating at Griffin-Leggett Healey & Roth Chapel, 5800 West 12th Street, Little Rock, Ark., 72204.

NORMA LUCILLE POE, 90, of Little Rock, passed away May 15, 2008.She was born April 25, 1918, in Colgate, Okla., to Jim Tabor and Katie Cauhorn.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Henry Kindrix, of 56 years and Johnny T. Poe, of 13 years, three sisters, and four brothers. She issurvived by her daughter, Stephanie Yarberry and her husband, Steve, of Little Rock, Ark.; stepsons, Eddie Poe, of Little Rock, Ark., Dickie Poe, of Hot Springs, Ark.; brother, Walter Tabor, of Tehachapi, Calif.; sister, Artie Gillian, of Mena, Ark., grandson, Steven Yarberry III, and several step-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Iron Springs, Chapter #524 and a member of East End Baptist Church.

CLAIRE HELEN ROGERS, 93, of Little Rock, Ark., passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, May 15, 2008.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, parents, Toby and Amelia Rogers; son, Paul Edward Armstrong and son in law, Jackie Morehead.

CLIFFORD RAY WILCOX, 73, of Jacksonville, passed away on Wednesday, May 14th, 2008, in North Little Rock. Clifford was born on July 3, 1934, in Liberty Center, Ohio, to the late Stanley and Helena (Jewel) Wilcox. Clifford spent 35 years as a proud member of the Ironworkers Union Local 395. He designed and built award winning milkwagons for county fairs in Indiana. Clifford was well known for his love for sprint car racing and weekly attended the races at I-30 and at Beebe. Clifford married the love of his life, Erma Lee Sims Wilcox, on June 26, 1959, and was blessed with almost 50 years with her.

He is survived by his wife, Erma; his three children, Carrie Wilcox and Jay Wilcox of Jacksonville and Skip Wilcox of Remington, Ind.; a brother, Bob Wilcox of Hamilton, Ind.; two grandchildren, Shayna and Shallon Wilcox of Jacksonville and a host of family and friends who will miss him dearly.

Clifford was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Herbie Wilcox.

AUSTIN - Jimmy William Crawley, 64, of Austin died Thursday, May 15, 2008, in Jacksonville. He was born Aug. 30, 1943, in Mount Vernon, Texas, to the late AG and Laddie Hale Crawley. Mr. Crawley was a truck driver and had lived in Arkansas for 22 years.

Jimmy is survived by his wife of 14 years, Keren McBride Crawley of Austin; children, Dale Crawley of Bivins, Texas, and Cristie Whetstone of Geona, and stepchildren Vearnail Rowe of Sheridan, Wayne West and John West, both of Cabot. Also surviving him are a sister, Joy Lindsey of Mount Pleasant, Texas; and two brothers, James Crawley of Cabot and Neal Crawley of Hallsville, Texas; as well as 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, four nephews and three nieces.

CABOT - Loretta Ann Balding, age 80, of Cabot, passed away Friday, May 16, 2008. She was born June 20, 1927, in Granite City, Ill., to the late Richard Balding and Francis 'Bessie' Geyer Balding. Loretta was a devoted Christian and loved the Lord and served the Lord in many areas during her life. Her life's career was as a Social Worker which she loved. She was proud of her time serving on the Indian Reservation and worked proudly with the Salvation Army. Her love for the Lord and serving the Lord was her life's ultimate career.

She is preceded in death by her parents Richard and Francis Balding; one sister, Lorene Balding; and two uncles, Hartzell Geyer and Forrest Balding. CONWAY - Lillian Garrett, age 78, of Conway, Ark., went to bewith her loving Savior on Friday, May 16, 2008. She was born Nov. 24, 1929, in Lonoke, Ark., to the late Robert and Ollie Morris.

Bob and Lillian Garrett, longtime residents of North Little Rock, and were owners ofGarrett Vending Company.

She is preceded in death by her brother, Bobby Jack Morris, of Hendersonville, Tenn. Lillian is survived by her husband of 58 years, Robert Garrett of Conway; two sons, Mike Garrett and wife Judy of Vilonia, Robert Garrett Jr. and wife Judy of Mayflower; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sister, Eva Waddell and husband Ben of Lonoke.

MALVERN - Wilbur H. Sullivan, age 81, of Malvern passed away May 16, 2008 at HSC Medical Center. He was born Aug. 23, 1926 in Malvern the son of William Herman and Allah T. (Allen) Sullivan. Wilbur was a 1943 graduate ofMalvern High School, received a BSdegree in 1953, and MS in 1955 from the University of Southern California, and his EdD from the University of Arkansas in 1978. He had traveled extensively, visiting 29 countries and teaching in many of them. He retired from Downey Unified School District in California in 1982. Wilbur served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII and was a 50 year member of the Rockport Masonic Lodge #58, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, and a member of the Scimitar Shrine Temple in Little Rock. Wilbur was the 2003 President of the Senior Adult Center in Malvern, a member of Cooper Hunting Club, and was an active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, having taught and was currently a member of the Disciples of Christ Sunday school class.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister, JoAnn Haase.

Survivors are his wife, Neva (Sesser) Sullivan, to whom he was married on Jan. 20, 1984; daughters, Karen Hollinger and husband, Wade of White Hall, and Krista Litchfield and husband, Jeff of Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandchildren, Martin Croft, who is serving in the Navy in San Diego, Calif., and Daniel and John Hollinger of White Hall; and step-granddaughter, Amanda Farmer and husband, Josh of Irving, Texas; Sisters-in-law, Eloise Bollen of Friendship, Ark.,Christene Hultquist of Montgomery, Texas, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be Sunday, May 18, from 6-8 p.m. at Regency Funeral Home in Malvern.

Funeral services will be Monday, May 19 at 2 p.m. in the Regency Chapel with Brother John Owen officiating. Interment will follow at Shadowlawn.

Pallbearers are Glen Spraggins, Bill Kizer, Ron Holt, Guy Collins, Ed Conklin, Clifford Green, John Corley, and Olen Sims. Honorary pallbearers are the members of Cooper Hunting Club, and the Malvern Senior Adult Center.

MORRILTON - Billy Wayne Tew, age 71 of Morrilton passed away Friday May 16th. Born in Lincoln County on Feb. 15, 1937, he was the son of the late W.R. (Rome) and Huzell Carr Tew. Billy was a retired plant foreman of Riceland Foods, where he worked for over 30 years and a resident of Dumas, Ark. for 50 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a former member of the Dumas Bass club and spent countless hoursfishing on the Arkansas River.

He is survived by one daughter, Angela Gavin and husband Rayburn of Rye; son Anthony (Buddy) Tew of Dumas; longtime companion Mary Harris and her sons Kevin Harris and Jason Harris, all of Morrilton; brother Robert Tew and sister Shelby Edditon both of Star City; and seven grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Wanda Sue Tew of Dumas; one brother, Edward Tew of Dumas; and both parents.

PELL CITY, Ala. - John L. Prothro, Jr. (1943-2008) of Pell City, Ala., formally of Gurdon, Ark., left this life on May 13, 2008. Johnny was born in 1943 to John and Frances Prothro in El Dorado, Ark. and spent his younger years in Gurdon, Ark. Johnny graduated from Gurdon High School in 1961, and from Henderson State Teachers College in 1965. Johnny directed bands in both Arkansas and Texas and participated as an active member and past president of the Four States Bandmasters Association.

Johnny holds a Master's Degree in music from Henderson State University and numerous Technical Degrees from nursing to preaching.

Johnny is survived by hundreds of friends and his brother and sister, Lennie Prothro and Beth Williams. Johnny has five nieces and nephews and 10 great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by John and Frances Prothro.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Suddenly, on May 6, 2008, at Georgetown University Hospital, James Clark Wood Jr., of Washington, D.C. The son of the late James C. Wood, Sr. and Frances Kirten Wood, he was born April 12, 1939 in England, Ark. and grew up in Little Rock. Mr. Wood attended the University of the South (Sewanee) and received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Arkansas. A long-time Washingtonlawyer and public servant, he is survived by his wife, Janet Rosie Sauser; their daughter, Melissa Qiuhong Wood, of Washington, and his son, Courtney Wood of California. His son Ashley Wood died in 1996. FARGO, N.D. - Evelyn McCall, 95, of Fargo, N.D., died Saturday, May10, 2008, in Bethany Homes, Fargo, N.D.

Evelyn Harriet Smith was born March 30, 1913, in Ft. Worth, Texas, daughter of Joseph and Olivia (Prescott) Smith.

She was educated and employed in Duluth and Minneapolis, Minn. On March 3, 1945, Evelyn married John E. McCall.

John and Evelyn moved to Fargo, N.D., in 1952, where they worked at their business, Hardware, Inc., and raised their two daughters.

They were members of First United Methodist Church where Evelyn taught Sunday school.

She enjoyed gardening, playing pool, needlepoint, playing cards and making people laugh. In 1971, they moved to Mesa, Ariz. John died on October 3, 1994.

Evelyn moved to North Little Rock, Ark., in 1995, and then returned to Fargo in June 2007.

She is survived by her two daughters, Liz (Paul) Johnson, Fargo, N.D.; and Mary (Robert) Johnson, North Little Rock, Ark.; six grandchildren, Ryan (Meredith) Johnson, Joy Johnson, Christy (Mark) Jacobson, Matt (Courtney) Dale, Jennifer (Jon) Berry, Stephanie (Joe) Garza; eight great-grandchildren, and seven nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, John; her sister, Gwen; and her two brothers, Joe and Jerry.
