Youth advisory council appoints new leader

— Marlene Kuras is the new adult leader for the Youth Advisory Council division of the local foundation.

Pope County Community Foundation President Bucky Croom announced the decision.

"Marlene Kuras is an art teacher in the Russellville Public School District, so she has extensive training and experience in relating to and working with area youth. We are confident that YAC will have a positive impact in their own lives as well as the lives of Pope County youth," Croom said.

Youth Advisory Council members are young men and women who believe in giving their time to help solve problems or create opportunities for youth. They can be from eighth- through 12th-graders from any school in Pope County. Members will gain experience and knowledge of fundraising and distributing money through grants to worthy projects. The first project was associated with the hunger-relief campaign. On Aug. 22, members painted an outdoor mural on the new kitchen/dining room facility at Main Street Mission.

Interested teens should submit an application to YAC, P.O. Box 2112, Russellville, AR 72811. Applications have been sent to each school. They are also available by calling (479) 967-3083 or e-mailing wclagron@cswnet.com.
