Tight end's career over

Georgia tight end Bryce Ros is ending his football career because of a chronic foot condition.

Georgia director of sports medicine Ron Courson says Ros, a redshirt freshman from Kennesaw, Ga., suffers from chronic degenerative changes in his right big toe joint.

Ros suffered the injury as a junior at Kennesaw Mountain High School. He had corrective surgery but has continued to have symptoms.

Georgia Coach Mark Richt said the school has asked the NCAA for a medical exemption to allow Ros to remain on scholarship.

Ros was the team's fourth-string tight end.

Coach Rich Brooks says Fields has a torn ligament in his midfoot and will have surgery on Thursday.

Fields, a redshirt freshman from Frankfort, Ky., was expected to compete for playing time in a crowded receivers group.

Several other Wildcats are also dealing with injuries. Fullback John Conner is nursing a sprained ankle, and offensive guard Jake Lanefski could return to practice later this week following a knee injury.
