SUPERMARKET SLEUTH: Lunch on the go grows and so do sweet choices

— Oscar Mayer recently added six varieties to its Lunchables line. The packaged combos can be found in your grocer's refrigerated section near the lunch meats, and should sell for about $3.50 each.

The new versions are Turkey + Cheddar Sub, Ham + American Sub, Turkey + Cheddar Cracker Combo, Ham + American Cracker Combo, Deep Dish Cheese Pizza and Deep Dish Pepperoni Pizza. Each Lunchables contains the main meal item, and accompaniments like mini Nilla Wafers, sugar-free Jell-O, Chips Ahoy! cookies, Tree Top applesauce, mini Cheese Nips, small bottles of spring water and pouches of tropical punch Kool-Aid singles drink mix.

DESSERT A LA MODE

Edwards new Singles A La Modes are a new microwave dessert featuring a cake-like bottom and ice cream topping layer. They sell for about $3 for a box of two and come in three flavors:

Hot Apple Crisp featuring a cinnamon apple crisp topped with vanilla ice cream and a layer of almond crumb and caramel.

Hot Fudge Brownie with vanilla ice cream and a layer of chocolate chips and butter fudge.

Hot Turtle Brownie with vanilla ice cream layered with praline pecan and caramel.

GLUTEN-FREE MIXES

Betty Crocker has a new line of gluten-free dessert mixes for yellow and devil's food cake, brownies and chocolate chip cookies. They sell for about $4.50 each, and should be found on your grocer's baking aisle.

The mixes require the addition of ingredients like butter, eggs and water, but if you prefer not to add dairy products, baking directions and recipes can be found at BakeLifeSweeter.com/gluten-free.

CINNABON BARS

Kellogg's Cinnabon and Cinnabon Caramel Snack Bars are a new treat that can be enjoyed right out of the wrapper or warmed in the microwave. The treats are made to mirror the taste of Cinnabon's signature cinnamon rolls, and each crispy bar has a cinnamon flavored filling and a drizzle of sweet icing on top. They contain 150 calories per bar and 4.5 grams of fat, and sell for about $3 for a box of six.
