Ark. school assignment on rifle shots criticized

A grandmother called the police over her sixth-grade granddaughter's homework including references to an enraged teacher shooting a rifle and murder rates in Moscow and Washington.

Edna Schaefer says her granddaughter is "scared to death to go back to school" after the "critical thinking practice" assignment she had.

The homework, focusing on number sequence, geographical directions and logic, posed a question about an "enraged middle school teacher" who fired a rifle at the student but the shot splashed into a lake. Other questions dealt with suicide rates of young and old men and the murder rates of Moscow and Washington.

Schaefer says the Harrison School District teacher apologized to her granddaughter, but she still plans to send the assignment to school board members.
