Box office

— Inglourious Basterds scalped the competition at the box office last weekend, opening at No. 1 with more than $38 million. It was by far director Quentin Tarantino's best opening.

District 9, in its second weekend, took in $18.2 million. The Time Traveler's Wife made $9.7 million on its second weekend.

The low-budget family film Shorts opened at $6.4 million.

Post Grad limped in at $2.7 million, while documentary XGames 3D proved a bust, garnering only $837,216 despite playing exclusively in higher-priced 3-D theaters.
