Rogers mayor at odds with director's salary

The executive director of the Rogers Public Library Foundation earned a salary in 2008 equivalent to nearly 60 percent of the nonprofit's cash donations that year.

An analysis of the foundation's 990 forms by the Springdale Morning News found that Maureen Cover-Bryan earned a salary of $44,452 in 2008. Foundation president Hal Savage says Cover-Bryan's salary in 2009 remains unchanged.

The foundation listed $74,667 in cash donations for 2008, 76.3 percent of which was used to pay salaries and salary-related expenses for Cover-Bryan and a part-time employee.

Cover-Bryan declined the newspaper's request for comment.

In a letter to Savage dated Aug. 17, Rogers Mayor Steve Womack says he was "shocked" that such a large percentage of contributions went to pay salaries.
