ENTERTAINMENT NOTES Rehm, Gloriana,Pvt. Wars, ASO's Big Band fill week

— Public radio's Diane Rehm will headline an eponymous fundraiser for Little Rock public stations KUAR-FM, 89.1, and KLRE-FM, 90.5's Tower Campaign at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 11301 Financial Center Parkway, Little Rock.

Gloriana at Harding

Country quartet Gloriana - Tom Gossin, Mike Gossin, Rachel Reinert and Cheyenne Kimball - will perform at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Benson Auditorium at Harding University in Searcy.

The group's self-titled album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Country Album Chart and No. 3 on Billboard's Top 200. Their single "Wild at Heart" has sold more than a quarter of a million copies.

Village band

The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra's Big Band will perform '40s and '50s dance band favorites under the aegis of the Hot Springs/Hot Springs Village Symphony Guild at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Woodlands Auditorium, Ponce de Leon Center, DeSoto Boulevard and Balboa Drive, Hot Springs Village.

Former ASO clarinetist Earl Hesse leads the 14-piece ensemble.

Private ward

The University of Central Arkansas Theatre will open its 2009-10 season with Pvt. Wars by James McLure, an "uncompromising comedy" that follows three Vietnam veterans recuperating in an Army hospital, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday and Sept. 9-11 in the Studio Theatre, Snow Fine Arts Center, UCA, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway.

All that jazz

The Charlie Hunter Duo - guitarist Charlie Hunter and drummer Eric Kalb - will perform at 8 and 10 p.m. Saturday in the Starr Theater at Walton Arts Center, 495 W. Dickson St., Fayetteville.

Hunter simultaneously plays bass lines, rhythm guitar and solos on custom-made seven- and eight-string guitars.

The concerts kick off the center's 2009-10 Tyson Foods Starrlight Jazz Series, which features general-admission theater seating and four-person cabaret tables in front of the stage.

Singing policeman

Tenor Daniel Rodriguez, the New York policeman who became known for his stirring renditions of "The Star-Spangled Banner" and "God Bless America" after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, will open the Hot Springs Village Concerts Association's 2009-10 season with performances at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 8-11 at Woodlands Auditorium, Ponce de Leon Center, DeSoto Boulevard and Balboa Drive, Hot Springs Village.

Since 2001, Rodriguez has performed at the Olympics, the Tournament of Roses Parade, the 2004 Republican National Convention and President George W. Bush's second inauguration concert and made numerous television appearances.

His program will include a Mario Lanza segment, a salute to Broadway and a selection of patriotic music.
