Student receives young artist scholarship

— Sam Pettit, a 2009 Cabot high school graduate, is one of four recipients of The Arkansas Repertory Theatre Summer Musical Theatre Intensive program's young artist college scholarship.

Pettit was one of 47 students chosen to perform out of 400 that auditioned for the program. The scholarship is a one-time award of $500.

Pettit is also the first-prize winner in the U Promise Tuition Tales video competition. His submission was one of 700 nationwide.

His video was judged on quality, theme, creativity and popular vote. This scholarship is a onetime award of $500.

In May, Pettit was awarded the University of Central Arkansas foundation's Carolyn Mann endowed scholarship for $2,500 for the 2009-2010 school year. Recipients may re-apply annually.

He was also a top finalist for the THEA Foundation scholarship program for the Performing and Visual Arts.

Pettit is the son of Carl and Lesa Pettit of Cabot. He will attend the University of Central Arkansas, where he will major in digital filmmaking.
