Woman volunteers to help construct home abroad

— Searcy resident and volunteer Cheryl Pinkley joined a 10-member team of volunteers from five states in America. The team will participate in a ThriventBuilds Worldwide/Habitat for Humanity International project in Santa Ana, El Salvador.

The team of volunteers arrived Friday and will return Sunday, Sept. 6. Thrivent Builds Worldwide trips give participants an opportunity to become active partners with people of other cultures. Team members work alongside members of a Habitat for Humanity host community, raising awareness of the burden of poverty housing and building affordable homes in the United States and around the world. All trips bring together Thrivent Financialfor Lutherans members with other Lutherans and volunteers to build homes with families in need.

Teams will also spend a few days touring local historic sites and attractions or participating in recreational activities. At least 50 percent of trip participants must be members of Thrivent Financial. To encourage participation, Thrivent Financial makes an $8,000 contribution to the Habitat host affiliate on behalf of all participants who are members. Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity is a $125 million alliance between Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and Habitat for Humanity International.
