JONESBORO — Booze is giving a boost to city coffers in Jonesboro.
Beginning in July, the city increased from 3 percent to 5 percent its tax on gross alcohol sales at private clubs.
As a result, city officials say revenue to the city nearly doubled in July to more than $20,000. The city uses the money for alcohol law enforcement and education.
So far this year, the alcohol tax paid by the city's 20 clubs and restaurants has generated more than $109,000 for the city.
