Salvation Army slaying

Stories related to the killing

A Salvation Army major was fatally shot in front of his three children Thursday afternoon as he walked into the the organization's community center in North Little Rock, authorities said.

Around 4 p.m., two black men dressed in black approached Philip Wise, 40, of Maumelle outside the community center at 1505 W. 18th St., Pulaski County Coroner Garland Camper said.

Wise’ children — ages 4, 6, and 8 — were walking with him when the men came up to them, police said. His wife, Cindy, also a major in the Salvation Army, was inside the center at the time and called 911.

One of the men pulled a gun, demanded money and then shot Wise, police said.

Police ask that anyone with information contact them at 758-1234.

What a bunch of Scumbags to do something like this. The needle is too good for these Scumbags...

Great...a guy and his family from Maumelle go to a low-class, high-crime part of NLR; and this is what he and his family get for it. Hope these low-lifes burn in hell for what they did to his family, especially at Christmas with his 3 young children beside him. Perps like this don't deserve the oxygen they inhale!

I know people kill people -- the gun is not to blame-- but dammit!! There are too many guns available to too many nuts!!

First of all...spoken like a true libtard locomojo. There is obviously never too many guns. Too little laws for repeat offenders. Too little judges and prosecutors with a spine to lock these low life's up for any period of time. We need Open Carry here in Arkansas bad. This tragedy is proof of that. Not saying it would have saved this mans life...but it might have. And any chance is better than no chance at all. I would rather have a gun and NOT need it....than NEED a gun and not have it. An armed society is a safe society. God bless this man and his family. Lord be with them, and the rest of you have a Merry Christmas.

"Around 4 p.m., two black men dressed in black"...when is the black community going to start taking responsibility for this B.S........12% of the population is causing 90% of the crime in our country....the silent majority is getting tired of being silent...murdered in front of his children.....enough is enough....anybody who knows these two a-holes needs to come frwd and turn them in...

Of course we see the need to continue to exclusively hear this "reverend" or that rail on about the injustice of "black on black" crime. How many examples do people need shoved in their faces everyday to understand that it is time to become "Lions in the path." I am sick to death of this.

Salvation Army Major = preacher, this is unbelieveable. They should bring back the e-chair or rope for especially hideous crimes like this. I'd pull the lever or flip the switch myself.

pixief4rt says... December 24, 2009 at 11:25 p.m.

So no offense...but why is it that recently 90% or better of the crimes committed in North Little Rock are committed by black dudes? Someone close to me was robbed on his BIRTHDAY by 2 black guys. They stole his very expensive laptop (he never got it back). It took the cops like 30 minutes to get there, even tho the station is like 3 BUILDINGS down from the incident. So, maybe it's the cops fault for not doing their jobs better? Dunno, but it's all effed up.

First of all, my heart goes out to the children and wife of Major Wise. I hope they will find some comfort in their family and friends during this horrible event in their lives. It never ceases to amaze me, quite4us2!....any time a story like this hits the web, all the redneck conservatives like yourself come crawling out from under your rock and slither up on top of your soap box to try to gain an audience for your backwoods, Neanderthal politics! This story has NOTHING to do with any laws regarding the right to carry handguns! It is a story about a good man who just lost his life in front of his three children and wife! It makes me sick that there are people like you who just can't leave your own, personal agenda out of the limelight!
Do you care at all about this poor family and their tragedy? If so, here is a suggestion: Dig through the empty beer cans lying on your floor, find the duct tape and have someone in your family tape your hands together for the remainder of 2009! That way, maybe you won't be so inclined to leave such insensitive B.S. here when you should be offering your condolences!

I did show that I cared what happened. Try reading it again you liberal bleeding heart lightweight. It's people like you that have no one to go off on so you pick on the smart law abiding folks that care about their rights and won't just give em away to some lame Gov. or bully make believe president like osama. So go on back to vegas and live your life in fear. Leave us Southern folks here to fend for ourselves. We're gonna do just fine. Guns and all. And may God forgive you. BTW...I don't drink. You racist.

vegaslights says... December 25, 2009 at 1:16 a.m.

For your information, quite4us2, I live my life fear-free and happy that I no longer live in the LR/NLR area! Left over two years ago and never looked back! It's your mentality that is exactly what ALL law abiding citizens should be afraid of. Ask God for YOUR guidance and forgiveness, not mine! I pity you the day you should decide to use your "gun rights" to take someone's life.
BTW...when did "Redneck" become a race?

I hope there will be as much effort made to catch these evil devils as in some other cases of recent origin. Here is a preface: If one looks out the window early in the morning and sees a glow in the east it is reasonable to think the sun is rising...that's a fact. If the majority of crimes of violence occur in black populated areas and the most of them are black...you fill in the facts. A white person does not dare to go into east St. Louis, but any black person can stroll down a white neighborhood quite safely with no fear of being attacked or shot. A good analysis of those extremes will point out some inevitable facts.

Correct me if im wrong "vegas lights" but if im reading the timeline correctly it was another contributor that unfortunately brought up their political views regarding gun laws before "quite4us". I might suggest you take a look in the mirror before casting stones. And yes, your rant if not racist is most definitely prejudiced. Now i agree that this is not the time to push some agenda, we need to send our prayers and support to the victims family and hope that the animals are caught. I would also suggest that you really havent "never looked back" since you left Arkansas. Proof is in the pudding my friend, you are on this website and not only read the story but took the time to respond.

Call it what you will, but if everyone had the attitude of the so called redneck we wouldn't be here commenting on such a tragic story! For way to long the courts and laws have been slanted to give the crimminal an advantage in his crime sprees. In an event like this, all resources should be used to hunt these thugs down and bring them to justice quickly! No year long trial and years more of appeal, find them and hold the trial promptly and execute the scum! By the way, we've all seen these thugs lurking in the streets and parking lots or prowling by the car load, police should stop them and if any excuse at all jail them! If any good can come of this it's that the public is riled enough to demand action! My prayers for those children and their mother.

I guess our society hasn't changed much in the last 50 or 60 years. It does not matter what color your skin is, we're all human. Ditto to what your political choices are, where you live, what religion you are. People, stand up for your own SELF, learn the facts, and make your OWN decision. Prejudiced people are not born...they are made.
