— A multi-vehicle collision killed four people and injured two others on Interstate 30 near Texarkana, closing a portion of the highway for hours.

The accident happened in a construction zone in the westbound lane at 4.2 mile marker around 3:30 a.m., according to Arkansas State Police spokesman Bill Sadler.

Five vehicles were involved in the accident, including a truck hauling newspaper inserts.

Two of the fatality victims were the driver and passenger of a commercial vehicle hauling newspaper inserts that crashed into the rear of a passenger vehicle. The driver and passenger inside the second vehicle were also pronounced dead at the scene.

The collision caused chain reaction crashes with three other vehicles.

Initially both lanes of I-30 were closed to traffic, but the eastbound lanes are now open.

Killed were Vaughn Gentry, 43, of Dallas; Albert Pruitt, 51, of Addison, Texas; Walter Carpenter, 77, of Hot Springs; and Victory Barker, 64, of Hot Springs.

Injured were Jeremy Hamilton, 15, of Mansfield, Texas; and Casey Walsh, 14, of Navasota, Texas.

The Arkansas State Police along with Arkansas Highway Police are conducting an investigation of the crash.
