BOWLING Roetzel breaks in Lowell lanes with 800 series

— Ken Roetzel of Springdale posted the first 800 series in league play at Fast Lane Entertainment since the center in Lowell opened, rolling games of 278, 258, 268 for an 803 series in the Thursday Major League.

"This was my first 800 and only the second shot at the center. I left the 10-pin the second frame of the 278 and the 3-6 on my fill ball," said Roetzel, an air traffic controller. "I shot at four single pins and had 28 of a possible 34 strikes. I'm taking the gold ring."

Roetzel, 51, a former bowling editor at the Arkansas Gazette, started bowling at 13 at Pike Lanes in North Little Rock. He used a Columbia Scout ball and averages 222.

FIRST 300 GAME

Grady Eoff, 61, of Plumerville kicked off the Commercial League at Conway Bowl with his first 300 game, then rang up games of 191 and 189 for a 678 series.

"All the hits were solid, I wasn't quite as nervous as I was when I shot a 298 game on Dec. 14, 2004," said Eoff, owner of the Hairtrimmers. "This time I took deep breaths and relaxed as much as possible, hoping not to leave my famous 10-pin. I took the ring."

Eoff started bowling at 30 at Forest Lanes in Morrilton. He averages 185 and used a Brunswick Smoking Inferno ball.

JUST ANOTHER 300

Gordon Childers, 47, of Benton notched his 104th 300 game between games of 181 and 267 for a 788 series in the Thursday Men's League at Enterprise Lanes.

Childers, owner of Enterprise, is the state recordholder in 800 series (103), 299 games (35) and 300 games.

He has an 879 high series, an 876 and 866, five 298s, 30 11-strikes-in-a-row awards including three 297s and a 296 and 295. He has a 258 triplicate series.

Childers started bowling at 13 at Pike Lanes in North Little Rock, and later quit for six years.

14TH 700

Stacy Heath, 31, of Alexandria, a secretary at Arkansas Children's Hospital, knockedout games of 251, 225 and 231 for a 707 series in the Benton's Finest Ladies League at Enterprise Lanes.

The 707 was the seventh for Heath, who started bowling at 14 at Professor Bowl West, and later quit for nine years. She has highs of 800 and 287.

115TH 700

Rachel Perez upped her state 700 total to 115 when she shot games of 258, 235 and 234 for 727 in Millennium Mixed at Millennium Bowl, and 258, 279, 254 for 791 in the Thursday Men's League at Enterprise Lanes.

Perez, an administrative personal assistant at TimberRidge Ranch Neuror Restoratoin Services and certified coach, started bowling at 13 at San Marcos, Texas.

She has in-state totals of three 800 series, 11 300 games, 4 299s, 297 and 2 290s, plus a state women's record 268 triplicate series.

28TH 700

Joy Forrest of Benton rolled games of 227, 279 and 246 for a 752 series in the Wednesday Mixed League at Enterprise Lanes for her 28th 700 series.

Forrest, a pharmacy technician at Walgreens, started bowling at 22 at Enterprise.

She has one 299 game, and shot a 780 high when she posted the local TCBA 6-game record of 1,559.

17TH 700

Teresa Munholland, employed by Bill's Flower Shop and part time at Enterprise, and Saline Memorial, shot games of 241, 226 and 245 for 722 in the 10 Pin Mixed League at Enterprise Lanes.

For Munholland, 52, ofBenton, who started bowling at 9 at Raceway, Ore., it was her 17th 700 series.

She has one 300 game and 757 high.
