Cooper Tire to add 200 jobs at Texarkana

— Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. has announced it will add 200 jobs to its Texarkana operation and start running the plant around the clock, seven days a week.

The company said in a news release Monday that it is seeing increased demand for its tires. The added work is to start Jan. 1.

In December, the Texarkana plant's 1,400 workers agreed to a contract that made significant concessions, including a three-year wage freeze and changes to their health plan. The company pitted its plants against one another in seeking savings. Cooper closed its Albany, Ga., plant. Cooper has plants at Tupelo, Miss., and at its headquarters in Findlay, Ohio.

Last month, Cooper announced a $6 million expansion at Tupelo.
