McDaniel joins LCD-screen price-fixing suit

Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel says he’s joined four other states in a suit accusing makers of liquid-crystal display computer monitors of price fixing.

A news release Tuesday from McDaniel’s office said the suit was filed by attorneys general from Michigan, Missouri, West Virginia and Wisconsin as well as Arkansas. The release said the suit stemmed from a year-long investigation by the five states.

Defendants named in the suit include Samsung Electronics Co., LG Display Co., AU Optronics Corp., Chimei Innolux Corp., HannStar Display Corp., Sharp Corp. and Hitachi Displays, Ltd. According to the suit, the companies conspired to set prices on LCD panels used in monitors made by Dell, Apple, and Hewlett-Packard, among other computer manufacturers.

According to the suit, the illegal overcharges were ultimately paid by consumers in Arkansas and elsewhere.
