TRANSITIONS

Taj Mahal Indian Cuisine

has opened at 1520 Market St., Little Rock (previously the home of El Acapulco, Way Out Willie’s and a couple of other Mexican restaurants, and literally within a stone’s throw of competitor

Amruth, a block away in the Market Place Shopping Center, 11121 N. Rodney Parham Road). The place has been serving from its buffet, lunch and dinner for about a week and will start offering full off-themenu service Friday. That menu includes a few items we haven’t found at other area Indian restaurants, including a Calamari Pakora appetizer, Mango Shrimp, Goat Korma and Goat Paalak and several vegetarian dishes.

The lunch buffet is up 11 a.m.-2.30 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday-Sunday; dinner hours are 5-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 5-11 p.m. Friday-Saturday, 5-9:30 p.m. Sunday. Our Little Rock phone treated the listed telephone number, (501) 520-4900, as actually long distance (meaning we had to dial 1 and the area code to get through). You can check out the menu and other information at tajmahalar.com.

We had reported some months ago that

The Box, which shut its doors in Juneafter a gazillion years at 1623 Main St., Little Rock, to make way for a USA Drug store, would be moving to what had been the Wooley Electric Supply Inc. building at 1023 W. Seventh St. (at Ringo Street), Little Rock. We noted then that the opening date was a little indefinite, although some reports had it sometime in August. A pass-by earlier this week revealed no overt activity going on in the building, although a peek into the windows revealed what looked like some restaurant paraphernalia within. The Box’s old telephone number, (501) 372-8735, returns a message that the holder has not yet set up a message box. We’ll keep you posted.

Mi Burrito II, 8605 Arkansas 107, Sherwood, has apparently closed. Readers report the blinds are drawn, the neon signs are off, the patio tables and TVs are gone and two signs on the door read: “Closed for business.” The telephone number (501) 834-1867, produces a busy signal but apparently has not yet been disconnected.

Catfish City & BBQ Grill, 1817 S. University Ave., Little Rock, will close Mondays starting in September. That will put its hours at 10:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. The restaurant has also instituted what the industry calls an “auto-grat” - an automatic gratuity added to all checks, 12 percent for dine-in customers and 6 percent for to-go orders. The telephone number is (501) 663-7224.

Maumelle will see a couple of new establishments in the next month or so:

Sept. 12 is the target date for the opening of

Key West Self-Serve Yogurt, 105 Country Club Parkway (behind the Regions Bank). Hours will be 11 a.m.-10 p.m. daily. The phone number is (501) 803-9074.

And something called

Woka Woka Custom Stir Fry, apparently a Mongolian grill-type operation, is slated to open sometime in September at 1800 Club Manor Drive. We couldn’t get an answer from the listed telephone number, (501) 803-9083, but we’ll keep you posted.

A colleague called our attention to a posting by a member of the Capitol View/ Stifft Station Neighborhood Association to a food truck that parks Tuesday nights outside the

Whitewater Tavern

on Seventh Street in Little Rock (where the kitchen is being remodeled) and in front of George Jett’s Gas & Service Station, West Markham and Johnson streets, after the station closes at 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. The two owners have apparentlycreated a company called

The Bees Knees

and are serving sandwiches, including gyros, burgers, chicken, pulled pork and grilled cheese. We’ll keep you posted.
