Paragould woman killed in wreck

— A 61-year-old Paragould woman was killed Wednesday night when her vehicle was hit head-on by a car that was trying to pass another.

Cody L. Lamb, 16, of Paragould, was driving east on Country Club Road in Paragould near Daniel Drive when he attempted to pass another eastbound vehicle but instead collided with its left rear, according to a preliminary Arkansas State Police report. It happened shortly after 9:20 p.m.

Police say Lamb's car then veered into the oncoming lane and was struck by a westbound Ford driven by Theresa Montero.

Montero died from injuries sustained in the wreck. Lamb was taken to Methodist Medical Center in Paragould, where his condition was not immediately known Thursday.

The driver of the third vehicle was not injured.

Authorities say light rain was falling and the roadway was wet at the time of the accident.

Montero was the 522nd person killed in a traffic accident on Arkansas roadways so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
