Heat advisory covers much of state

— Heat indexes forecast to hit triple digits across much of Arkansas have prompted a heat advisory that begins at noon Wednesday and continues through Friday night.

Temperatures are expected to climb into the mid-to-upper 90s with heat indexes reaching as high as 110 degrees, the National Weather Service said in a statement.

Such conditions can bring on heat-related illnesses quickly, the weather service said, warning that people should drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioning as possible and check up on relatives and neighbors.

The advisory through Friday covers 36 central and southern Arkansas counties and includes the cities of Little Rock, Arkadelphia, Hot Springs, Camden and Searcy. A separate advisory that expires Wednesday night covers 11 counties in eastern Arkansas.
