State crime victims given $300,000 in June

The state's Crime Victims Reparations Board has given out $302,764.72 in reparations to 146 crime victims during June, the attorney general office announced Friday.

And in54 previous cases, additional funds were paid.

For all of last year, 1,738 claims were awarded for total payout of $3,821,954.01.

The Crime Victims Reparations Program was created by the 76th General Assembly and provides compensation for victims’ unexpected expenses, including medical treatment, mental health counseling, lost wages, replacement services and funeral expenses.

Most awards are limited to $10,000 or less; however, for victims receiving catastrophic injuries resulting in total and permanent disability on or after August 1, 1999, the maximum award can be as high as $25,000.

The Attorney General’s Office provides staff to administer the Crime Victims Program under the direction of the Crime Victims Reparations Board. The board members decide which claims can be paid and how much can be awarded. Board members include Dr. Jan Church of Little Rock, Colleen Nick of Alma, Redious Yancy of North Little Rock, Attorney Cory Cox of Little Rock, and Attorney Louis Jones of Fayetteville.
