CARL LOUIS BRUNCK, 82, of Little Rock went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 22, 2010. Born Oct. 6, 1927, in Little Rock, he was the son of the late Carl and Nelle Brunck. His loving wife, Montine, survives him as well as his son, Dr. Philip K. Brunck, and daughter, Lisa Maher; sister, Carol Core; three granddaughters; one grandson; two great-grandsons; and one great-granddaughter. He is preceded in death by a son, Carl Louis Brunck Jr. He graduated with a degree in Architectural Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. He worked for Wittenberg, Delony & Davidson and thereafter joined Engineering Consultants, Inc. as a partner. He was involved in many large construction projects in Little Rock and around Arkansas and Texas. Carl was known for his integrity and knowledge of his profession. He loved to fly airplanes, learning at the age of 16. He also flew planes for the U.S. Navy at the end of World War II. He retired in 1991 and enjoyed sailing his boat for many years. • ——LILLIAN PHYLLIS "LEE" JUSTUS CLOUD, born Aug. 8, 1919, died on July 23, 2010. She was born in St. Paul, Minn., to Elmer Henry Justus and Florence Noring Justus and met her husband during WWII in Wisconsin. They wrote to one another throughout the war and married on June 11, 1949. Lee had a great spirit of adventure and worked as a lab technician for the Anchorage Hospital and the Alaskan Railroad during WWII. While her husband attended dental school at Washington University, she worked for the American Red Cross. After her husband finished dental school, the couple relocated to Little Rock, Ark. Lee helped her husband establish his dental practice and cared for their growing family. She was active in her church, St. James United Methodist Church, having served on several committees. She was a member of the Agape Sunday School class for over 20 years. While their children were young, she was a Den Mother in both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. She was a volunteer for several agencies including Meals on Wheels. She served as president of the Arkansas Dental Auxiliary. During the crisis at Central High School, she was an active member of the Women's Emergency Committee to Open Our Schools. She had many faithful friends in her bridge clubs of 25 years. During her last years, as she became more housebound, she knit shawls for people in hospitals and nursing homes. She is remembered by her family for her love of God and her family, her hand-knit sweaters and great Grammie rolls and German Christmas bread. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Dr. William L. Cloud of Little Rock, Ark.; three children, Judge Teresa Hughes and sonin-law, Judge Tom Hughes of Beebe, Ark., sons, Dr. W. Lindsay Cloud III and Dr. John Justus Cloud; her daughters-in-law, Robin Cloud and Valerie Cloud of Little Rock, Ark.; three granddaughters, Dr. Gwyneth Hughes, Lauren Cloud and Katherine Cloud; sister, Florence Mitchell of St. Paul, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Carolyn Schletz. Visitation will be Monday, July 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. • ——WILLIAM RALPH GRADDY, age 91, of Alexander, Ark., passed away Friday, July 23, 2010. He was born Nov. 11, 1918. He was the first-born child of Robert and Pearle Graddy of Morganton, Ark. He was a World War II veteran with two battle stars. He was a retired carpenter who raised honey bees and was an avid gardener. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie, of 62 years, and son DeLane. He retired from the United States Air Force after 30 years as a Lieutenant Colonel. • ——STEVEN LEWIS MOURNING, 63, of Little Rock died unexpectedly on July 20, 2010, while returning from a business trip to San Diego, Calif. He was born at St. Vincent's Infirmary on June 2, 1947, in Little Rock to the late Burwelle Anderson and Sibyl Bush Mourning. He is survived by his wife, Anne Taylor Mourning; and his daughters, Lauri Ann Mourning Scott (Dave) of Aurora, Colo., and Alicia Lynn Mourning of Denver, Colo.; grandsons, Owen and Andrew Scott of Aurora; his brother, Lloyd Randall Mourning; and sister, Suzanne Mourning Carr (Perry), both of Little Rock. He graduated from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts and received a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. He was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and a lifetime member of the UALR Alumni Association. Steve relocated to Colorado in 1978 where he served as president of the St. Joseph Hospital Foundation in Denver. He moved to Saratoga, Calif., in 1987 to become the Vice President for Development at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation in Palo Alto, Calif. He later became a partner with the consulting firm of Jerold Panas, Linzy & Partners of Chicago. His development expertise, fundraising success and commitment to health care philanthropy and mentoring hundreds of colleagues led him to receive the Harold J. “Si” Seymour Award, the highest commendation given in the health care industry. He was a Fellow of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy. He was a past board member and treasurer of the association. Steve served on the faculty of the AHP Madison Institute, a program he helped found 32 years ago at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He co-founded Madison Down Under in Australia and was a continuous international guest presenter. Steve had recently returned to Arkansas after his marriage to his wife, Anne, whom he first met at Mabelvale High School more than 40 years ago. She found him listed on classmates.com and remembered they shared a similar career in the field of development, having last seen him at an AHP conference in 1987. She wrote him an e-mail message and he responded. He soon traveled to Arkansas to renew their high school friendship. Their teenage bond provided great love and comfort, and they married August 29, 2009, at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. Steve served on the Board of Directors of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation, the Board of the SETI Institute and the AHP Foundation. His interests were wide-ranging, from being a soccer coach when his daughters were growing up in Denver to later becoming an avid fan of the San Jose Sharks. He was a connoisseur of red wines, particularly those of South Australia's Barossa Valley where he spent time each year. He loved to travel, and he and Anne greatly enjoyed their time together in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where he proposed marriage Feb. 14, 2009. Steve's brilliance, humor and generous friendship will be missed by countless lives he touched. His twin daughters will miss him dearly and credit him for his love and guidance in their lives. His spirit, kindness and intelligence touched all of us, and we will cherish him with all our hearts. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 26, 2010, followed by an interment of ashes in the church garden. • ——JOHN EDWIN “NED” SWITZER, 87, of Little Rock, passed away July 22, 2010. Ned was born Jan. 4, 1923 in Clarksburg, W.Va., to Lee Silas and Mary Josephine (Cook) Switzer. Ned grew up in Weston, W.Va., where he graduated from St. Patrick's High School. In 1941 he went to Middle River, Md., where he worked for the Glen L. Martin Company building B-26 Bombers. He joined the U.S. Army in August 1944 and served with Reconnaissance Company 702nd Tanker Destroyer Battalion, Second Armored Division, 9th Army. He was discharged July 1946 as First Sergeant. Later he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the (Army) Reserves serving as Battery Commander and attaining the rank of First Lieutenant. Ned served as the Postal Clerk for the United States Post Office in Weston until 1955 when he and his family moved to Little Rock where he served as the manager and Secretary of the Board of Directors of Rivercliff Apartments. He remained an officer and director in senior capacity until his death. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Jane Callison Smith Switzer, his parents, and brothers Lee Paul and A. Raymond Switzer. He is survived by two children, Susan Robertson (Royce) of Fayetteville and J. Steven Switzer (Liz) of Little Rock; four grandchildren, Christopher Robertson of Fayetteville, Carrie Whelan (Brian) of Tega Cay, S.C., Michael Switzer and Catherine Switzer of Little Rock; one great-grandchild, Owen Whelan of Tega Cay, S.C.; three sisters, Mary Josephine Cheek of Little Rock, Constance Nabors of Dallas, Texas, and Jean Marie Donnelly of Cincinnati, Ohio; as well as many dearly loved nieces and nephews. • ——BENTON — Pauline Fitzsimmons, age 93, of Benton, has gone home to be with the Lord, Friday, July 23, 2010. She was born June 6, 1917, in Pike County, Ark. Mrs. Fitzsimmons was a retired L.P.T.N. at the Arkansas State Hospital and a member of Forest Hills Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Doc and Nolier Willis; husband, James Fitzsimmons; and a brother, Hansford Willis.

She is survived by her son, James Fitzsimmons of Lincoln, Neb.; two daughters, Bette Paslay of Searcy and JoAnn Fitzsimmons of Hot Springs; brother, Owen Joe Willis of Tyler, Texas; four loving grandchildren, Robyn Sanders, Chris Paslay, Haleigh Fitzsimmons and Hannah Fitzsimmons; and four greatgrandchildren, Jesse Paslay, Emily Sanders, Lily Paslay and Lynley Sanders.

• ——BENTON — Lilla Mae Overton Harrison, 83, Benton, formerly of Tulip, Ark., passed away Friday, July 23, 2010, in a local nursing home. She was born in Tulip, Ark., on July 14, 1927, to William Thomas Overton and Mary Ellen Lawrence Overton. Mrs. Harrison was a retired nurse at the Arkansas State Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Ray, Roy, Dewitt “Dude”, Cecil and George Glendee Overton; and three sisters, Ione Leath, Opal Overton and Gertrude Huffman.

She is survived by a husband, Dale L. Harrison; two sons, Fred E. Rains and wife, Becky, of Little Rock, Rodney D. Rains of Anchorage, Alaska; brothers, Preston Haywood “Hayde” Overton and wife, Syblene, of Camden, Curtis Overton and wife, Hazel, of Fordyce; sistersin-law, Freda Overton of Malvern, Billie Overton of Malvern, and Jeane Cockrill of Benton.

• ——BENTON — Paul Levine, age 80, of Benton passed away Friday, July 23, 2010. He was born May 31, 1930, in Brooklyn, N.Y. Mr. Levine served 20 years in the United States Air Force and worked 20 years for U.P.S. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post No. 2256 in Benton.

Mr. Levine was preceded in death by his parents, Murray and Freda Levine; his first wife, Dorothy Shapiro Levine; son, Stuart Jay Greenfield; and a sister, Judy Burk.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Levine; two sons, Howard Michael Levine and Joel Jock Levine; daughter, Naomi Sue Loket; four sisters, Shirley, Nettie, Dorothy and Rhoda; and nine grandchildren.

• ——BRINKLEY — Anne McShane Luckinbill Sharp, age 84, passed away on July 21, 2010. A daughter of J. Max and Madeleine Luckinbill, she was born in Fort Smith, Ark., on March 30, 1926. Anne was a fourth-generation graduate of St. Anne’s Academy in Fort Smith, attended Nazareth Academy in Nazareth, Ky., and Webster College in St. Louis, Mo., graduating from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark., where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority.

She is survived by two sons, W. Wilson Sharp and wife Lee of Albuquerque, N.M., and Baxter Sharp III of Brinkley, Ark.; one daughter, Madeleine Gretchen Sharp-Smith of Bel Air, Md.; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Anne was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Sharp; parents, J. Max and Madeleine Mc-Shane Luckinbill; and siblings, Patrick Luckinbill and Max Luckinbill.

• ——MORRILTON — Carroll Phillip “Brownie” Williams, age 78 of Morrilton passed away July 24, 2010 at his home in Morrilton after a brief illness. He was a loving and gentle father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and a true friend to many. Brownie was a Christian and lifelong Baptist. He was born Sept. 11, 1931 at Scotland, Ark., son of the late Thomas and Rose Williams. He was preceded in death by his precious wife of 42 years, Mary Ashcraft Williams. Brownie is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Bruce Hawkins of Morrilton; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Doris Williams of Knoxville, Ark.; his grandchildren, Clayton Hawkins of Morrilton, Amanda Williams of Clarksville, Kevin Williams of Russellville, and Nicholas Williams of Knoxville. One great-grandchild, Nathaniel Sparks of Clarksville. He was preceded in death by two siblings, Lowell Williams and Sally Durham. Brownie was a 1951 graduate of Wonderview High School where he played basketball for the Dare Devils. He was very proud to have served his country as a Corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He remained a proud veteran and never failed to salute the flag when appropriate. After returning from the war he went to work with his father in the sawmill business until he joined Arkansas Kraft Corporation in 1967 where he worked until his retirement in 1994. Upon retirement he continued his favorite pastime of fishing and was a proud member of Fish Lake Club. Brownie was an avid Razorback fan rarely missing a football or basketball game. He survives; also surviving are a daughter, Sally (Rand) Brewer of Little Rock; two grandchildren, Reed and Matt Brewer, both of Little Rock; three sisters, Verna Shilts of Loda, Ill., Elsie Eichelberger of Champaign, Ill., Dorie Gustafson of Paxton, Ill. and numerous other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters.

She graduated from Paxton High School in 1946 and while living in Paxton, she was employed by the Bear Brand Hosiery and Farmers - Merchants National Bank. She and her husband left Paxton in 1961. The lived in Ottawa, Ill a number of years after which they moved to Little Rock, Ark., where they lived for a time and had lived in Russellville since 1991. She was a longtime employee of M. Hills in Russellville. She was a member of the Pottsville United Methodist Church, Pottsville, Ark. and the U.M.W. and a former member of the Paxton United Methodist Church. She was a member of Prospect Chapter No. 367, O.E.S. in Paxton. She enjoyed interior decorating, flowers and traveling. Mrs. Beaton was preceded in death by her parents, Laodice and Leonore Derise and brother, Louis Paul Derise. Mrs. Beaton was born in Jeanerette, La. on Jan. 7, 1925. She moved to Wynne and married Kenneth Beaton in 1950. She was an avid golfer, gardener and bridge player. After graduating from Franklin High School in Louisiana, Mrs. Beaton continued her education and received her RN degree from Charity Hospital in New Orleans. She became a skilled surgical nurse and was employed at Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio, Texas where she met her future husband. Martha was a member of the St. Peter's Catholic Church. She was a member of the Crowley’s Ridge Ladies Golf Association where she served as treasurer for 20 years. She was a former member of the Town and Country Garden Club. She enjoyed bi-monthly bridge club for forty years with many dear friends. She volunteered at Red Cross Blood Drives for many years. Jack worked in oil field well servicing for over 43 years. He enjoyed spoiling his little dog Missie, feeding hummingbirds, doves and squirrels and tinkering around the house. He lived his life with kindness, selflessness and touched the lives of so many. Above all, he was a beloved son, brother, husband, dad, papa and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Clyde and Ed Marks; his sisters, Hazel Vittitow and Wyona Colvin. He is survived by his wife, Edith Marks of Hobbs; daughter, Vickie (Andy) Gibbs of Hobbs; grandchildren, Hannah and Andrew Jack Gibbs of Hobbs; sisters, Elizabeth Barner of Clinton, Ark., Janette Whited of Whitehouse, Texas, and Helen Alesce of Hot Springs, Ark.

Memorial services will be held in Prairie Haven Memorial Park Chapel in Hobbs, N.M., on Friday, July 30, 2010, at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Brad Reimers officiating. Burial of the urn will follow. Condolences may be sent to www.chapelofhopefunerals.com.

• –––––DALLAS, Texas — John Kenneth Shamblin Jr. passed away suddenly on July 14, 2010. He was born Feb. 6, 1940, in Fayetteville, Ark., and lived a full, happy and blessed life. Kenneth was preceded in death by his sister, Lynda Louise Shamblin; his father, Bishop John Kenneth Shamblin; and his mother, Virginia Late Shamblin. He is survived by his wife, Pamela Fleming Shamblin, his beloved daughter, Kara Lyn Churchill, son-in-law, Terrance Churchill, and granddaughter, Elizabeth Whalen Churchill, all of Bainbridge Township, Ohio. His precious daughter, Cynthia Marr Shamblin, resides in Dallas. John and Yolanda Late of Odessa, Steve Late of Austin, Val Late of Dallas and Jan Late McMillan of Midland survive him as well. He was a beloved member of the Durwood and Lurlyn Fleming family and extended Fleming family and was the son-inlaw of Lurlyn January Fleming, and the brother-in-law of Dr. Jon Hugh and Cheryl Fleming of North Zulch, Texas, and Dr. Stephen and Marty (Fleming) Curtis of Dallas. He was also the proud uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Ken was serving as an Associate Pastor of Pastoral Care, First United Methodist Church of Richardson at his death, where he was beloved by the congregation.

He was a graduate of Central High School, Little Rock, Ark., Hendrix College, Conway, Ark., and Perkins School of Theology, SMU, where he earned a Masters of Divinity in 1965. Ken served churches in the Little Rock and North Arkansas Conferences of the United Methodist Church as well as churches in the North Texas and Central Texas conferences. He served on many boards and agencies in his 40 plus years of ministry and was a passionate runner and golfer. Memorial services will be held at First United Methodist Church of Richardson, Texas, at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 31st with a reception to follow. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Richardson, Texas. Kenneth Shamblin loved and was loved and lived his life in gratitude and thanksgiving. A life well lived, thanks be to God!
