Pea Ridge driver dominates again

— Arkansas’ most decorated modified driver lived up to his billing during Friday night’s eighth annual Scrapp Fox Memorial at Beebe Speedway.

Johnny Bone Jr. of Pea Ridge, one of the nation’s most successful and feared dirt modified drivers, took the lead from the pole and was never seriously challenged in taking the $2,000 victory.

Bone, 43, has traditionally been a contender to win wherever he races, whether it’s as a frequent competitor in the United States Modified Touring Series in the upper Midwest and South or in special events throughout the South and Southwest.

On Friday night, he proved he could also be dominant at a track he hadn’t visited in many years.

“I guess it was eight, nine, 10 years ago the last time I was here, probably,” said Bone, who picked up his 14th victory of the season. “We had a good car and got a little lucky, too.”

There was nothing lucky about how Bone earned the pole position for the 30-lap feature. He won his first heat from the second row and then charged to the front again in his second, inverted heat. He then outcharged outside polesitter Casey Findley to the first turn in the feature andled comfortably throughout.

Findley took second, Robert Powers of Campbell, Mo., was third and Arkadelphia’s Keith Craft finished fourth. Mike Bowers of North Little Rock got past Little Rock’s Robert Baker in the final couple of laps to take fifth.

As for Bone, it was time to get back on the road.

“We’re thinking about going down to Ark-La-Tex Speedway [in Vivian, La.] for another $2,000-to-win show they have down there,” he said. “Or we may head towards home and race at Fort Smith. We’ll be racing somewhere.”Scrapp Fox Memorial BEEBE - Friday night’s feature race results from the eighth annual Scrapp Fox Memorial modified race at Beebe Speedway with finishing position, driver, hometown, starting position in parentheses, laps completed and earnings: 1.
