TEXAS LEAGUE: Travs’ rally fizzles in ninth

— A late rally fell short for the Arkansas Travelers on Saturday night at Oneok Field.

Arkansas, which trailed by four runs through seven innings, scored twice in the eighth and once in the ninth but couldn’t overcome the Tulsa Drillers, losing 6-5 before 6,296 fans.

With the Travs trailing 6-2 in the eighth, the Travelers’ Carlos Colmenares singled, advanced to third on AlexiAmarista’s base hit and scored on Carlton Jimerson’s base hit. After moving to third on a wild pitch, Amarista scored on Jeremy Moore’s groundout.

Arkansas closed it to 6-5 in the ninth when Ryan Mount hit a home run to right. Efren Navarro flied out, and Roberto Lopez and Andrew Romine grounded out to end the game.

Cory Riordan (5-4) pitched 7 innings to get the victory, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. Stuart Pomeranz pitched the ninth to get the save. Michael Anton (4-7), who gave up 6 runs on 7 hits in 7 innings, took the loss.

Arkansas took a 1-0 lead inthe second inning when Nick Gorneault singled in Charlton Jimerson. Tulsa answered with two in its half of the inning when Kiel Roling hit a two-run home run to center to score Scott Beerer.

The Drillers pushed it to 4-1 in the sixth when Wilin Rosairo hit a two-run home run to right, scoring Charles Blackmon.

Arkansas got one back in the seventh when Gorneault homered to left to make it 4-2.

Tulsa pushed it to 6-2 when Roling doubled to right, scoring Beerer, and Roling scored on Anthony Jackson’s base hit up the middle.
