High court's Corbin to return to work after heart attack

Arkansas Supreme Court Associate Justice Donald Corbin is recovering from emergency bypass surgery after suffering a heart attack earlier this month. He will return to work at the end of summer recess, according to the Supreme Court communications office.

Corbin had a heart attack July 18, and the surgery on July 20. There were some complications, but the justice is now out of intensive care and his cardiovascular doctors are optimistic about his recovery, according to a news release from the Supreme Court's communications office. He will remain hospitalized for a couple of days and return to work at the end of the summer recess.

Corbin was elected to the Supreme Court in 1991. Prior to that, he served five terms as a state representative from 1971-1980.He was a judge on the Arkansas Court of Appeals from 1981-1990, and the chief judge there for the last three of those years. Corbin has practiced law in DeQueen, Lewisville, and Stamps.
