Man, 21, drowns in Buffalo River

— A 21-year-old Augusta man drowned Tuesday in the Buffalo River downstream from Grinders Ferry, according to the National Park Service.

An unidentified Buffalo National River visitor told a ranger about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday that a person was underwater downstream from the landing, a park service newsrelease said.

The ranger commandeered a canoe from another visitor and paddled down to the stranded man, the release said.

At 12:52 p.m., the ranger found 21-year-old Justin Clark, who had complained to fellow visitors of leg cramps just before he disappeared, the release said.

Clark died at the scene.
