Families sue man convicted in Wis.-Mich. shootings

A man convicted of ambushing a group of teenagers on the Wisconsin-Michigan border in 2008, killing three of them, now faces lawsuits from two of the victims’ families.

Relatives of 19-year-old Bryan Mort and 18-year-old Anthony Spigarelli are suing Scott J. Johnson, saying they know he has few assets but want to make sure he never profits from his crimes.

The lawsuits, first reported by WLUK-TV, seek $5 million each.

Johnson, in a handwritten response to the judge criticized, the families for suing him. He called their actions “just as vile” as what he did in committing the slayings.

He pleaded no contest last year to 10 felonies, including three counts of first-degree intentional homicide. He was sentenced to three consecutive life terms plus 295 years.
