TEMPE REGIONAL: Arizona State tops Hawaii, moves on

— Kole Calhoun hit his third home run in as many days and No. 1 national seed Arizona State beat Hawaii 8-4 on Sunday night to win the NCAA Tempe Regional and advance to the super regionals.

The Sun Devils (50-8) won their fourth consecutive regional title and will play Arkansas or Washington State next weekend.

GAINESVILLE REGIONAL

Thompson too much

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Tyler Thompson became the first Florida player to hit three home runs in a postseason game as the Gators (45-15) beat Florida Atlantic 15-0 to clinch the regional.

Thompson also doubled and drove in six runs.

COLUMBIA REGIONAL

Gamecocks advance

COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina (46-15) used a six-run sixth inning to notch its third come-from-behind victory in three games and defeated Virginia Tech (40-22) 10-2 to win the Columbia Regional.

Jose Mata pitched 4 1 /3 innings of scoreless relief for the Gamecocks, who will play either Coastal Carolina or College of Charleston in the super regionals next weekend.

NORWICH REGIONAL

Seminoles move on

NORWICH, Conn. - Sherman Johnson hit a two-run home run in Florida State’s four-run third inning as the Seminoles (45-17) advanced to the super regionals with a 5-3 victory over Oregon (40-24).

AUSTIN REGIONAL

Horns win regional

AUSTIN, Texas - Russell Moldenhauer homered and drove in three runs as Texas (49-11) beat Rice (40-23) 4-1 to win the Austin Regional.

Taylor Jungmann (7-3) dominated the Owls by allowing just 2 hits and striking out 7 while throwing only 84 pitches in 7 2 /3 innings.

FORT WORTH REGIONAL

Frogs feeling super

FORT WORTH - Steven Maxwell struck out 10 in eight shutout innings to lead TCU (49-11) into the super regionals with a 9-0 victory over Baylor (36-24).

The Horned Frogs have won nine consecutive games and will play at Texas in the super regionals.

NORMAN REGIONAL

Shore stifles Heels

NORMAN, Okla. - Bobby Shore scattered four hits over seven-plus innings and Oklahoma (39-21) overcame leaving 11 runners in scoring position to beat North Carolina (46-16) 3-2 and advance to the super regionals.

The Sooners left 15 players on base, but Shore (9-4) went a season-long 7 1 /3 innings and struck out 6 without walking a batter.

LOS ANGELES REGIONAL

UCLA tops Irvine

LOS ANGELES - Cody Regis hit athree-run home run in the eighth inning, helping UCLA (46-13) advance to the super regionals with a 6-2 victory over UC Irvine (39-21).

UCLA will face Cal State Fullerton or Minnesota in the super regionals next weekend.

Drew Hillman and Jordan Leyland homered for the Anteaters, who eliminated defending national champion LSU with a 4-3 victory earlier Sunday.

LOUISVILLE REGIONAL

Goodenow delivers

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Vanderbilt’s Richie Goodenow threw a two-hit shutout in his first start of the season, and second of his career, to lead the Commodores (44-18) to a 7-0 victory over Louisville (50-13) and force a deciding game tonight.

Goodenow (3-1) allowed a double in the third inning and a single in the eighth while walking two and striking out five against Louisville, the No. 7 national seed.

AUBURN REGIONAL

Auburn stays alive

AUBURN, Ala. - Creede Simpson hit a three-run home run with two outs in the top of the ninth to give Auburn (43-20) an 11-10 victory over Clemson (40-22) and force a deciding game today.

Simpson belted a 1-2 pitch from Tomas Cruz to left-center field in his only at-bat for his fifth home run.

ATLANTA REGIONAL

Tide turns on power

ATLANTA - Jake Smith hit a threerun home run in Alabama’s five-run first inning and Adam Morgan pitched a fivehitter to help the Crimson Tide (40-23) beat Georgia Tech (47-14) 8-1 to force a deciding game today.

Alabama hit four home runs in the first two innings. The Tide’s power surge was surprising considering it ranked next-tolast in the SEC this season.

CHARLOTTESVILLE REGIONAL

St. John’s still alive

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Jeremy Baltz hit a pair of two-run home runs, the second a go-ahead shot in the bottom of the eighth inning, and St. John’s (43-19) beat Virginia (49-12) 6-5 to force a decisive game today.

The Red Storm, who beat Mississippi 20-16 earlier Sunday, got all their scoring on three two-run home runs in the late game. Greg Hopkins also hit one in the second.

CORAL GABLES REGIONAL

A&M forces issue

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Matt Juengel homered and Texas A&M (43-20-1) emerged from the losers’ bracket to defeat Miami (42-18) 11-7 and force a deciding game today.

John Stilson pitched 3 2 /3 innings of scoreless relief, earning the save for Texas A&M.

MYRTLE BEACH REGIONAL

Noel homers in 9th

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Rico Noel’s two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth saved the season for Coastal Carolina (54-8) and ended a six-game losing streak to the College of Charleston (44-18).

FULLERTON REGIONAL

Titans top Lobos

FULLERTON, Calif. - Corey Jones hit a home run and drove in three runs as Cal State Fullerton (43-16) eliminated New Mexico (38-22) with an 11-3 victory.
