UA president: holding off on planned raises

The University of Arkansas system president, B. Alan Sugg, says faculty and staff raises planned for July 1 at the system’s campuses will be delayed until next year.

A news release from the university said Sugg met Tuesday with Gov. Mike Beebe to discuss the matter after the state’s top fiscal officer, Department of Finance and Administration Director Richard Weiss, said last week no such raises would be forthcoming.

The release said the decision will be revisited in January.

According to the university, campuses in the system had planned to provide an average of 2 percent merit salary increases to faculty and staff beginning July 1.
