Plane hitting empty Ark. home not a crash

The Arkansas State Police say a small airplane’s collision into an empty mobile home in southwestern Arkansas will not officially be considered a crash.

Senior Cpl. Roger Whitmire says pilot John Tackett was attempting to take off about 2:15 p.m. Thursday when heavy rain began falling and limited his vision. Whitmire says Tackett veered off the runway to the left and into the empty home.

He says it isn’t officially considered a crash because the plane had not left the ground.

Tackett was treated and released at an Ashdown hospital.

The Federal Aviation Administration is reviewing the incident.
