City calls for vote on ice cream trucks

— The Sherwood City Council will hold a special meeting Thursday at 6 p.m. to vote on an ordinance that would allow ice cream trucks in the city.

The original ordinance was redrafted by alderman Charles Harmon at Monday’s meeting to include more safety regulations, including criminal background checks for drivers. The original ordinance was brought to the council in April by Mayor Virginia Hillman and failed to pass 5-2 at the May meeting.

Hillman presented the proposal to the council after 10-year-old Jenna Steele called to ask why ice cream trucks were not allowed in Sherwood. Jenna has attended all the City Council meetings addressing the issue.
