First the Eagles, then Pops on the River

— The Eagles are returning to central Arkansas on Thursday, minus any fancy-pants name like the “Hell Freezes Over” tour this time around, as reported in Thursday’s Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

Instead, it’s called the — get ready for this — “Summer 2010” tour. And you can see the foremost exponents of classic California rock in its third visit to Verizon Arena (counting two times when it was named Alltel Arena). JD & The Straight Shot open the show at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $152, $97, $77 and $47, plus fees.

On Sunday, for the 27th year, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette is sponsoring Pops on the River, the state’s largest July 4 celebration. It takes place at the Riverfest Amphitheatre in Little Rock. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. After assorted musical performances, including the Arkansas Symphony at 8:30, the fireworks are scheduled for 9:30. Admission is free.
