LR's 311 extends hours for fireworks complaints

— The City of Little Rock's 311 citizen services line will operate extended hours next week to handle fireworks-related complaints.

Little Rock has banned possession, sale and use of fireworks.

Citizens can call 311 to report such issues from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. on July 3 and July 4 and from 11 a.m. through 7 p.m. on July 5.

Complaints outside those hours should be directed to the non-emergency police number, 371-4829.

Little Rock Police Department Lt. Terry Hastings said the calls will be relayed to officers specifically assigned to investigate fireworks complaints those days.

"We get hundreds of them," he said. "We'll handle them as they come in as quickly as possible."

Having 311 take the calls helps keep 911 open for emergencies, Hastings said.

"911 is not a number to call about fireworks," he said. "They've been tying up 911, which ties up emergency calls, so that's why we're asking people to call 311."
