JOE DAN CAMPBELL SR., 83, of North Little Rock died peacefully on Thursday, March 25, 2010, in Little Rock. He was born in Lonoke, Ark., on June 3, 1926, to the late John and Rosie (Gentry) Campbell.

Joe was a World War II Navy veteran having served from June 2, 1944, until Oct. 7, 1946, and saw duty on the destroyer ship USS Brownson. He was an ironworker and a member of union Local 321 in Little Rock. Joe enjoyed the horse races, watching the stock market, and buying and selling rental property.

He is survived by his sister, Betty (S.T.) Howard; two sons, Randy (Jane) Campbell and Keith Campbell; grandson, Joe D. Campbell III; granddaughter, Michelle (Dennis) Armstrong; daughter-in-law, Janet Campbell; three great-grandchildren, Emily, Luke and Gracie; and companion, Ann Rogers.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the Doctors and Nurses at Hospice Home Care who took loving care of Joe during his final days.

• –––––CLARENCE “HOOK” MORRISON EVANS of North Little Rock, formerly of Lonoke, died March 25, 2010, at Lonoke Nursing and Rehab, Lonoke. Mr. Evans was born in El Dorado to the late Jack and Octie Elizabeth Morrison Evans.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Martha Reynolds Evans, whom he married in El Dorado in December 1966; also surviving, daughters, Brandi Evans Keune of Florida and Sheri Evans Morgan of North Little Rock; and granddaughter, Maggie Elizabeth Keune.

• –––––FRANCES LOUISE HAMMONDS, age 85, of Jacksonville, formerly of Cherry Valley, died March 25, 2010. She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her sons Bill (Jackie) Hammonds and Gary (Sue) Hammonds; and daughter, Linda Lipps; six grandkids and 13 great-grandkids. She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin Hammonds of the Furlow area. Interment will be in Vandale Cemetery. Arrangements by Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke.

• –––––KENNETH EUGENE KOEHLER, 77, of North Little Rock, also known as “Pa,” went to be with our heavenly father on March 25, 2010.

Born to Otto and Masel Koehler on April 29th, 1932, in Pulaski County, Ark., Ken enlisted in the Navy in 1948. He fought in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1952. In 1955, he married his soul mate, Helen Joy Koehler, who in 2008 preceded him in death. Ken opened his first service station and started Koehler Enterprises; he took great pride and pleasure in running his businesses. He was a man that won the respect of many because of his honest and philanthropic business practices.

He was met at the gates of heaven by his loving wife, Helen Joy Koehler and their son Kenneth Steven Koehler; his parents; and two brothers, Bill Koehler and an infant brother. He leaves the legacy of his teachings, unconditional love, and giving spirit to live through his family and friends.

Kenneth leaves behind one daughter, Suzanne Duty; two granddaughters, Stephanie Shaw and husband Bryan, Jennifer Donner and her fiance Chad Kennedy; three dearly loved great-grandchildren, Lily Shaw, Dakota Shaw and Ava Donner; amongst a host of family and friends, his memory will live forever in their hearts. Ken was cherished and loved by many and will be missed by all and never far from our hearts.

• –––––HELGA MARGARETE KOTLEWSKI, age 74, of Jacksonville passed away Friday, March 26, 2010. She was born Feb. 5, 1936; in Stettin, Pomerania, to the late Karl and Else Trojanoski.

Mrs. Kotlewski is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Donald L. Kotlewski; one brother and one sister of Kaiserslautern, Germany; loving sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews in Michigan; a brother-in-law and family in Florida.

• –––––Mr. JOHN WILLIAM REED, age 47, of North Little Rock passed away Thursday, March 25, 2010, at his home. He was born Dec. 30, 1962, in Weisbaden, Germany, to James W. and Sandra Lingo Reed. He was preceded in death by his mother. He was an avid fisherman and had a 14-year career with the United States Army, having served during in the Persian Gulf, Grenada, and at Panama. After serving his country, he went to work for the Veterans Medical Center as a Health Tech.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Reed; two children, Tyler A. and Tiffany N. Reed, all of North Little Rock; his father, James A. Reed of Heber Springs, Ark.; and a brother, James A. Reed and his wife, Karen of Jacksonville, Ark.

A Celebration of John’s life will be held Monday, March 29, 2010, at 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Griffin Leggett-Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock, Ark., (501) 835-3515, with Chaplain Silis Edwards Redd officiating. • –––––ORVILLE I. VANNESS, 97, of Little Rock went to be with the Lord Saturday, March 20, 2010. He was born on Jan. 30th, 1913, in Little Rock and remained a lifelong resident.

He founded Vanness Pen Shop in 1938. Following service in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II, he returned to Little Rock to renew his career. He remained active in the business for over 50 years, working side by side with his two sons, Dennis and Van, and his grandson Mike Vanness. A Godly man, he allowed the Lord to work in his life, instilling a disarming humility, a gentle nature and utmost generosity. When he spoke, he always spoke kindly. A wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Thelma Jane “Jennie” Vanness; daughter, Beverly Ann; and grandson, Van Joseph “Joey” Vanness. He is survived by his sons: Dennis (Becky) Vanness and Van (Vickie) Vanness. Other survivors include grandsons, Mark Vanness and Mike (Lisa) Vanness; granddaughters, Gini (Devin) Vanness Driskell and Julie (Travis) Vanness Minnie; nine greatgrandchildren; four great-greatgrandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

• –––––CONWAY — Jeremy Andrew Johnson, 23, of Conway, born Dec. 4, 1986 in Little Rock, died unexpectedly Sunday, March 21, 2010.

He was a member of the United States Army stationed in Fort Benning, Ga., the A-State Boys and a 2005 graduate of Oak Grove High School. Jeremy was a loving husband and father, or as his oldest daughter said — “Daee.”

He is survived by his wife, Kiera (Shelton) Johnson of Conway; two daughters, Julianne (4) and Elizabeth (1) Johnson, both of Conway; parents, Dwight and Deborah Johnson of Sherwood; sister, Amber Johnson of Sherwood; grandparents, Marvin and Joyce Johnson of Tillar; and several aunts, uncles, close family members and friends. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Carl D. and Betty Phillips.

• –––––ENOLA — Patricia A. Stephens, 61, of Enola went home to her Heavenly Father on Thursday, March 25, 2010.

Born in Conway, Ark., on Oct. 2, 1948, she was a daughter to the late Calvin Russell and Ernestine (Lasley) Stephens. She was a member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Vilonia. Pat enjoyed singing in church and was extraordinary when it came to embroidery and cooking. She enjoyed keeping all of her nieces and nephews and loved them dearly.

Her grandparents, Stephen and Ora Grimes Lasley and Earl and Era Stephens, all of Enola, also preceded her in death. Patricia is survived by a sister, Peggy Harris and husband Jim of Vilonia; two brothers: Calvin Stephens and wife Joyce of Greenville, Texas, Marion Stephens and wife Brenda of Enola; three nieces; four nephews; four great-nieces; 11 great-nephews,; one great-great-nephew; and one great-great-niece.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 27 at Roller-Mc-Nutt Funeral Home in Conway with Rev. Joe Engdahl and Bro. Jeff Ashley officiating. • –––––HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — Don H. Edgington, 80, of Hot Springs Village, Ark., died Wednesday, March 24, 2010, while peacefully at home. Don was born Feb. 7, 1930, in Texarkana, Ark., to the late Harold and Eunice (Barrington) Edgington. Don retired and moved to the village in 1993.

Don is survived by his wife of 58 years, Billie (Presley) Edgington; one son, Don W. and wife Debra Sue Edgington of Daphne, Ala.; and one granddaughter, Erin Kimberley Edgington of Daphne, Ala. Don was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in HSV, Ark.

Don served in the Air Force from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean War. He then went on to graduate from the University of Texas in 1958. Don was involved in many different organizations, to name just a few: Chevron — Chief Engineer for overseas petroleum, Inc. 1958-1978; Kerr-McGee — President of Oil & Gas Division 1978-1985; Leer Petroleum — CEO 1985-1987; Total — Vice President North America 1987-1992; Jackson House, which helped feed the hungry; Edgington Fund (1998) Income to be used for Lay/Youth Ministry development and training of Deacons in the Diocese of Arkansas; Project Hope; Treasurer, Board of Trustees — Diocese of Arkansas — 1999 to 2005; Junior, Senior Warden at Holy Trinity 1996-1997, Vestry 2003; Board of Trustees — Sewanee: University of the South 2004.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Hot Springs Village, Ark., with Father Richard Biega officiating.

• –––––SHERIDAN — Dorothy Travis Hendricks Williams of Sheridan, Ark., was born Sept. 16, 1925, in New Hope, Ark., the daughter of the late John Perry and Lydia Hicks Hendricks. She was a member of Buie Baptist Church at Prattsville and a homemaker. Mrs. Williams died Friday, March 26, 2010, at Arkansas Hospice in Little Rock at the age of 84.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Williams. Survivors: sons, Perry O. Williams and wife Debbie of Prattsville, Randy A. Williams of Greensboro, N.C.; sister, Maycel Orr and husband James of El Dorado; grandchildren, Megan Williams, Locke Williams, Shannon Shumate and husband Brent, Chase Mangiapane; great-grandchildren, Brendan Shumate, Madison Shumate and Blane Shumate.
