Harding professors awarded for collaboration with ARCare

— Harding University College of Pharmacy professors partnered with ARCare, formerly White River Rural Health Center, in the Patient Safety and Clinical Pharmacy Services Collaborative.

The team received the Clinical Pharmacy Services Improvement Award and the Life Saving Patient Safety Award at a national conference in Dallas on Oct. 8.

The Patient Safety and Clinical Pharmacy Services Collaborative is a nationwide project making an effort to improve the quality of health care by applying clinical pharmacy services to patients with complex medical situations.

Assistant professors of pharmacy practice Melissa Max and Katherine Anderson were noted for their efforts with ARCare in the Kensett and Brinkley clinics, where they were able to track the improvements in outcomes of patients taking medication for cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

The vast improvement among their patients earned the professors the Clinical Pharmacy Services Improvement Award.

Out of more than 100 candidates, the ARCare team was one of only four teams recognized with the Life Saving Patient Safety Award.

The team was honored for its work in executing processes to recognize and resolve potentially fatal drug episodes.
