— All aboard: Trains

to run at library

An exhibit of toy trains will open Dec. 15 at the Laman Library, 2801 Orange St., in North Little Rock in the library’s second-floor exhibit hall.

The hands-on exhibit, free to the public through Dec. 30, is from the Lionel Collectors Club of America. The display can be seen during the library’s normal hours.

The 12-foot-by-14-foot exhibit of three main lines and nearly 100 feet of track, will feature model buildings from the “North Pole” and “Snow Village” collections. Modern and vintage trains and other accessories also will be displayed.

Children will be allowed to operate the trains.

In conjunction with the exhibit, the library will give away a “state-of-the-art” Polar Express train set, and the collectors club has donated a Lionel Scout Train Starter Set to be given away, according to a library news release.

Rep night tickets are still available

Tickets to the 12th annual “A Night at the Rep,” including a musical performance of A Christmas Story and a silent auction, remain available through the North Little Rock Chamber of Commerce.

Tickets are $40 and include a reception with hors d’oeuvres, drinks and admission to the play. The reception and silent auction, featuringabout 150 items, will begin at 5 p.m. on Nov. 30. The performance will begin at 7 p.m. The event is at the Arkansas Repertory Theatre at 601 Main St. in Little Rock.

Auction items will include sports memorabilia, tickets to sports and cultural events, art, electronic devices and gift certificates.

Proceeds will support the chamber’s educational programs, such as Arkansas Scholars, Leadership Renaissance and Vital Link, as well as help fund scholarships in the community.

Author to talk about city history

Historian and author Cary Bradburn will discuss city history and his book, On The Opposite Shore: The Making of North Little Rock, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Dec. 2 at the Patrick Henry Hays Senior Citizens Center.

Bradburn, of the North Little Rock History Commission, published his bound book in 2004. It contains 288 pages and 160 photographsabout North Little Rock history from its earliest settlers through the modern era.

The History Commission is offering the book for $15. The Hays Center is at 401 W. Pershing Blvd.

Churches offering Thanksgiving eats

The Christian Mission Church at 1423 Moss St. will offer a free Thanksgiving dinner to the homeless and needy from noon to 3:30 p.m. Thanksgiving Day.

Anyone wanting to donate food or volunteer to help with the dinner can phone Linda Ray at the church at (501) 804-0034.

North Point Dixie Church of Christ also will have free Thanksgiving dinners Wednesday for the North Dixie area and the North Little Rock Housing Authority complexes.

The housing locations are Willow Street, 2500 Willow St.; Bowker House, 2301 Division St.; and Campus Towers, 1101 Bishop Lindsey Ave. Dinners will be served at each housing complex location from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Wednesday.

Again, park glows for Christmas

The annual Burns Park Christmas light display will run Nov. 29-Dec. 30 from 6-10 p.m. each day, sponsored by the North Little Rock Parks and Recreation Department.

Cost for the drive-through tour is $5 per car, $10 per van and $20 per bus.

Proceeds go toward additions to the light display for next year.
