Prep football coaches to speak at TD Club

Arkansas high school football coaches Ellis “Scooter” Register, Kevin Kelley and Mike Malham will speak at noon today at the weekly meeting of the Little Rock Touchdown Club in the Embassy Suites hotel.

Register coaches Little Rock Central, Kelley coaches Pulaski Academy and Malham coaches Cabot.

Annual membership to the Little Rock Touchdown Club is $50. Lunch, which begins at 11 a.m., is $15 for members and $25 for non-members. Those who do not wish to eat may attend for $10.

VOLLEYBALL

UCA falls in conference title

Central Arkansas (28-8) lost to Texas-San Antonio 25-17, 25-22, 19-25, 21-25, 15-13 Sunday at the Southland Conference tournament final in Huntsville, Texas.

Texas-San Antonio advanced to its second NCAA tournament appearance in program history.

“I’m very proud of the way our team fought tonight,” Coach Steven McRoberts said.

UCA senior Chloe Smith and freshman Marissa Collins were named to the all-tournament team. Jessica Hays led with 22 kills and a career-high 22 digs. She finished the season with 487 kills, a new-single season record.

Arkansas wins on senior day

Janeliss Torres-Lopez paced Arkansas (14-16, 8-11) with a career-high 22 kills as the Razorbacks beat South Carolina 25-21, 23-25, 26-24, 25-17 on senior day Sunday in Fayetteville.

Brooke Fournier added 15 digs.

BASKETBALL

UAFS men, women lose in tournaments

Arkansas-Fort Smith women (4-1) lost to Texas Women’s 70-55 Saturday at the Pioneers Premiere in Denton, Texas.

Arkansas-Fort Smith committed 23 turnovers against a Texas Women’s team that defeated Division-I North Texas earlier this season. Tashley Gaines led Arkansas-Fort Smith with 15 points.

Arkansas-Fort Smith men (3-1) lost to King College (Tenn.) 89-80 Saturday at the Alaska-Fairbanks Invitational. Josh Simmons led Arkansas-Fort Smith with 19 points.

SOCCER

John Brown women fall in tournament

John Brown (15-5-1) lost to William Carey (Miss.) 2-1 Saturday in the first round of the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship.

Jodi Knack scored the John Brown goal. She led the team with 16 goals this season.
