Winners named in Conway League of Artists’ Tri-County Show

— Conway artist Sandra Ake took top honors in the Conway League of Artists’ 25th annual Tri-County Show, currently on display at the Faulkner County Library, 1900 Tyler St. in Conway.

She won the Best in Show Award for her watercolor Collared Lizard and the Jackie Guerin Beauty in Nature Memorial Award and $100 for her watercolor Pumpkin Patch. Ake also won an Honorable Mention for a third watercolor, Rush Ghost Town.

Bryan Massey Sr. of Conway, who teaches art at the University of Central Arkansas, was juror for the show. Awards were announced at a reception Nov. 10 following the monthly meeting of the artists league.

Ake said she was thrilled when she learned of her awards.

“This is the most I have ever won in one show,” she said.

Ake is the electronic graphics supervisor at the Arkansas Educational Television Network’s headquarters in Conway. She works with computer animation and graphics.

She and her husband, Bill, have one son, Jeremy, who lives in Lansing, Kan., with his wife, Nikki, and their 2-year-old son, Liam.

Winners were named in several categories, with first-place winners receiving $100 each; second-place, $75; and third-place, $50. Ribbons for Honorable Mention were awarded at the discretion of the judge.

Category winners include the following:

• Oil/Acrylic: First place, Marvin Crummer of Vilonia for Day’s End; second place, Tom Herrin of Little Rock, Some Fruit; and third place, Nina Ruth Baker of Conway, State Fair 2010. Honorable Mentions were awarded to Willie Nowell of Wye, Mountain Stream; Debbie Green of Conway, Pear Parade; and Virginia Potter of Conway, Santa Fe Carnival.

• Water-Based Paint: First place, Sandra Ake of Conway, Collared Lizard; second place, Pat White of Maumelle, Onions; and third place, Virginia Potter of Conway, Front Street, Conway. Honorable Mentions were awarded to Freda Anthony of Conway, Crazy Straight Lines; Ake, Rush Ghost Town; and Suzann Waggoner of Mount Vernon, Where the River Bends.

• Dry Media: First place, Pat White of Maumelle, Amy; second place, Suzann Waggoner of Mount Vernon, Painted From Memory; and third place, Jan Crummer of Vilonia. Honorable Mentions were awarded to Greg Hogan of Conway, Writer’s Cramp; and Van Swink of Fairfield Bay for two paintings, Waterfall No. 1 and Yellow Iris.

Photograph and Digital Assist: First place, Tom Herrin of Little Rock, Tom’s Butterfly; Kathy Wagenknecht of Maumelle, Waiting for Zippy; and third place, David Simmons of Conway, Under the Broadway Bridge. Honorable Mentions were awarded to Tim Donar of Conway, Tiger; Katie Keck of Conway, Water in Venice; and Kathy Wagenknecht of Maumelle, Gazing Ball Spring.

• 3-D/Installations: First place, Susan Peterson of Conway, Two for Tea; second place, Tim Imhauser of Little Rock, Sunset; and third place, Lois Giorgis of Conway, Three’s Company. There were no Honorable Mention awards given in this category.
