— Wal-Mart worker

charged in theft

An assistant manager at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in North Little Rock was arrested Sunday in the theft of $76,500 from the store after police said he gave his fiancee instructions on how to steal the money.

The money was taken from the accounting office in the customer service area of the store at 4450 E. McCain Blvd. at12:20 a.m. Sunday, North Little Rock police Sgt. Terry Kuykendall said. According to an arrest report, the money was later found at the Sherwood apartment of William Scott Davis, 39, an assistant manger at the store, and his fiancee.

The report says police found text messages from Davis to the woman showing that Davis was “directly involved in the planning and commission” of the theft.

Detectives then questioned the fiancee, who told them Davis gave her a key to the office and sent her a text message with the combination to a safe, the report says. He also “suggested what clothing to wear, including gloves, and instructed her as to how to carry out this act,” the report says.

Davis was arrested on one count of theft at 11:50 a.m. His fiancee had not been charged in the theft as of Sunday evening. Kuykendall said the investigation is ongoing.

Davis was being held Sunday evening in the Pulaski County jail in lieu of $5,000 bond.
