Art Contest

BENTON — The Saline County Library will host a princess art contest Monday through Tuesday, Nov. 23, for children ages 5-12 at the Bob Herzfeld Memorial Library in Benton. A Disney Princess movie marathon will begin at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, at the same location, and attendees will judge the artwork to determine the contest winner. The art contest and movie marathon are both in celebration of the upcoming release of Disney’s Tangled. Children can create a princess art piece at home or at the library and turn it in at the Bob Herzfeld Memorial Library with their first and last name and phone number on the back. The works will be displayed in the story-time room at the library for moviegoers to vote on. Royal attire is encouraged for the movie marathon. Popcorn and drinks will be provided during the movies, and the winner of the art contest will receive two movie tickets for Tangled. For more information, call (501) 778-4766.

A Choral Collage

ARKADELPHIA — Singers from Henderson State University’s music department will present a concert of diverse choral music at 3 p.m. in Hot Springs. The program, titled A Choral Collage, will feature a mix of music ranging from Orlando di Lasso to James Taylor. The free performance will be at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Hot Springs. Benton Watercolor

BENTON — Instructor Carolyn Voss will teach a watercolor class for adults 18 and older at 6 p.m. at the Bob Herzfeld Memorial Library in Benton. Genealogy Meeting

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — Karen Russ will be the speaker at the Village Genealogical Society monthly meeting at 2 p.m. at the Coronado Community Center. Her presentation will cover some of the materials in the American Memory database and how to search for genealogical tidbits in such a vast collection of materials. The American Memory website is http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/index.html. The Village Genealogical Society meets the first Thursday of each month (except July and August) at 2 p.m. at the Coronado Center. Anyone interested in family research is welcome to attend. Fish Dinner

MALVERN — St. Paul United Methodist Church at East Mill and Cherry Lane in Malvern will host a fish and chicken dinner from 4-7 p.m. Prices include a two-piece dinner for $7.50 or a four-piece dinner for $9; and children 12 and younger may eat for $4.50. Gallery Walk

HOT SPRINGS — Gallery 726 at 726 Central Ave. in Hot Springs will feature the visual art of Mary Ann Stafford of Maumelle and the pottery of Janet Donnangelo of Russellville, beginning with the Gallery Walk from 5-9 p.m. Friday and continuing throughout the month. Exhibiting with Stafford and Donnangelo are other visual artists: Shirley Anderson, Barbara Seibel, Sue Shields, Caryl Joy Young, Jim Oberst, Mary Anne Stafford, Pati Trippel, Janis Gill Ward and Gary Weeter. Also showing their works are jewelry designer Marlene Gremillion; glass artists Michael Riley and Charles Riley; and wood turner Ken Vonk. Book Sale

BENTON — The Saline County Library Used Book Sale is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday on the lower level of the Bob Herzfeld Memorial Library at 1800 Smithers Drive in Benton. The sale is open to the public, and there is no charge for admission. Paperbacks are 50 cents, and hardbacks, videos, audios and puzzles are $1 each. Patrons can also purchase romance and men’s adventure paperbacks at four for $1 and magazines at 10 for $1. Funds raised from the two-day sale will be applied to 2011 general programming for both branches of the Saline County Library. For more information, call (501) 778-4766.

Craft Show

BENTON — The Helping Hands Craft Show will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Saline County Fairgrounds. Admission and parking are free. Proceeds will go to the CJCON group, which gathers food for needy families. For more information, call Elsie Kelloms at (501) 778-6609.

Fall Festival

MALVERN — The Malvern K-4 PTC Leopard on the Loose Fall Festival and Chili Supper will be from 5-8:30 p.m. at Malvern Elementary School. This year will feature an all-new talent show, MES Has Talent, and a Queen Leopard Competition. There will be a silent auction and many games, including the moon walk and a slide. Admission is $5 and includes the chili supper and entrance to all activities.

Steel Magnolias

BENTON — The Royal Theater in Benton will present Steel Magnolias at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door or can be purchased in advance by calling Larry Block at (479) 243-0812. The theater is at 111 S. Market St. in Benton.

Reddie for Henderson

ARKADELPHIA — All high school seniors are invited to participate in the “Reddie for Henderson” special campus preview. Registration and check-in will be from 9:30-10 a.m. in front of Arkansas Hall. A complimentary breakfast will be served. Parking will be available at the Wells Athletic Center. Shuttles will take students and their parents to Arkansas Hall. The opening session will begin at 10 a.m. in Arkansas Hall. Campus tours, a departmental browsing session and a parent session will start at 10:45 a.m. A free lunch will be served in the Garrison Banquet Room. After lunch, students can attend optional organization browsing sessions, tour the athletic facilities and see the residence halls and recreation center.
