Woman shot over cough syrup, police say

— A woman was shot once in the wrist Tuesday night by a man who was upset she hadn't brought him cough syrup, authorities said.

Britini Klopping told investigators 30-year-old Lonie Barron had been calling her all night asking for cough syrup. According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the Garland County Sheriff's Office, Klopping met Barron later that night at 104 Leflore St. in Mountain Pine but had only a pain pill for him.

"Klopping stated that Lonnie Barron became angry with her because she did not bring him any cough syrup and that he pulled out a .22 special handgun, and started waving it around and then pointed it at her arm and shot her," the affidavit reads.

Klopping reportedly drove to her grandmother's home, where authorities were called. She was later transported to St. Joseph's Mercy Health Center for treatment.

Barron is facing a charge of first-degree battery.
