CLASS 3A: Arkansas Baptist outshines Barton

— Arkansas Baptist used a balanced attack Friday night at Eagle Field, pounding Barton 42-14 in the teams’ 2-3A opener.

The Eagles’ Dakota Newkirk scored five minutes into the game for a 7-0 lead. Will Betzner ran for a 41-yard touchdown and Jon Moon added scores of 44 and 6 yards to give the Eagles a 28-14 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Moon scored his third touchdown from one yard out with 7:25 left in the third quarter.

Arkansas Baptist’s defense held the Bears on downs twice in the second half and picked up a fumble for a touchdown to seal the victory with 9:41 left in the fourth quarter.

Barton’s Torrious Burton scored two touchdowns, a 5-yard run in the first quarter and a 57-yard run in the second quarter.

ROSE BUD 38, BRINKLEY 12

ROSE BUD - Joe Dalrymple ran for 126 yards on 15 carries and scored twice to lead Rose Bud (2-2, 1-0 2-3A) to a victory over Brinkley (0-4, 0-1). Carlton Greninger added 89 yards rushing on 16 carries and scored once for the Ramblers. Quarterback Nick Cartwright threw for 153 yards, completing 15 of 30 passes, and 2 touchdowns.

RIVERVIEW 45, MAYFLOWER 20

SEARCY - Riverview (2-2, 1-1 2-2A) needed only two quarters to beat Mayflower (0-4, 0-1), scoring all 45 of its points by halftime. In the first quarter, Josh Roach had a 1-yard touchdown then threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Dallas Shockley. Broderick McGahee also scored a touchdown in the first quarter. Cole Butler intercepted a pass for a 28-yard touchdown late in the first half.

3-3A EARLE 34, BALD KNOB 21

EARLE - Autrey Allen, who finished with 160 yards and a touchdown on 8 carries, returned a first-quarter interception 93 yards for a touchdown and returned a fumble for a score as Earle (4-0, 1-0 3-3A) topped Bald Knob (3-1, 0-1). Robert Marshall, who returned a punt 60 yards for a touchdown to open the fourth-quarter scoring, scored on a 50-yard run in the third quarter. He also finished with three interceptions.

HARRISBURG 66, MANILA 24

HARRISBURG - Quarterback Zach Davis threw for three touchdowns and scored another on a run, leading Harrisburg (3-1, 1-0) past Manila. Zach Pretty caught a touchdown pass, ran for a 61-yard touchdown and returned an interception 83 yards for a score for Harrisburg. Running back Joe Bornhoft rushed for two touchdowns and Marcus Smith caught scoring passes of 11 and 15 yards.

5-3A JESSIEVILLE 61, BISMARCK 18

JESSIEVILLE - D.J. Hayes rushed for 134 yards on 3 carries and scored 2 touchdowns as Jessieville (4-0, 1-0) beat Bismarck (1-3, 0-1). Dalton Oates and Michael Mendez also scored twice.

GLEN ROSE 54, BENTON HARMONY GROVE 8

BENTON - Collin Hunter threw four first-half touchdown passes to pace Glen Rose (4-0, 1-0 5-3A). Three of Hunter’s four scoring passes were to Shane Tuggle and the fourth went to Dylan Scroggins. Steven Kehner finished with 148 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns on 8 carries, and Adam Efird added a 20-yard interception return. Bryson Hudson’s 8-yard run was the only score for Benton Harmony Grove (1-3, 0-1).

FORDYCE 66, GENOA CENTRAL 8

TEXARKANA - Fordyce (2-2, 1-0 4-3A) had three players score two touchdowns at Genoa Central (0-4, 0-1 4-3A). Jeffery Highsmith, Darius Matthews and Dexter Walker each scored two touchdowns for Fordyce. Brandon Payne, Juwane Rice and Kentrel Simmons also scored a touchdown each. Walker led Fordyce with 150 rushing yards.
