CLASS 4A ROUNDUPS

— 2-4A NEWPORT 49, CAVE CITY 22

CAVE CITY - Quadarius Ross ran for three touchdowns to lead Newport (1-3, 1-0) to a 2-4A Conference victory over Cave City (0-4, 0-1).

Ross rushed for 138 yards on 10 carries with touchdown runs of 1, 73 and 4 yards. Devante Neal led Newport defensively with 18 tackles.

Ross scored the opening touchdown with 9:27 to play in the first quarter and Chris Grady kicked the first of his five extra points. Cave City cut it to 7-6 on Jacob Marks’ 5-yard touchdown run, but the extra point failed.

Newport stretched its lead to 14-6 with 3 seconds left in the first quarter when Colby Williams returned a fumble 20 yards for a score.

Ross got his team going again early in the second quarter with a 73-yard touchdown run. Cave City answered with a 5-yard run by Jeremy Runyan with 2:28 to go in the half. Newport’s Cortez Brown, who also had 71 yards receiving, made it 28-14 with 54 seconds to play in the half with a 7-yard touchdown run.

STUTTGART 49, SOUTHSIDE BATESVILLE 16

STUTTGART - Lewis McGee and Kyion Sims scored twice each to lead Stuttgart (2-2, 1-0 2-4A) over Southside Batesville (0-4, 0-1). McGee, who finished with 85 yards rushing on 7 carries, scored on runs of 67 and 7 yards.

Sims rushed for 95 yards and two touchdowns. Keith Humbert added a 28-yard touchdown run and a 27-yard field goal for the Ricebirds.

7-4A MALVERN 41, BAUXITE 10

MALVERN - James King had two touchdowns for Malvern (3-1, 1-0 7-4A) against Bauxite (2-2, 0-1 7-4A).

King scored on a 14-yard run and a 66-yard reception.

Dontelle Henson added three touchdowns on 209 total yards.

8-4A HAMBURG 21, DEWITT 7

DEWITT - Hamburg (2-2, 1-0 8-4A)broke a 7-7 tie with two rushing touchdowns in the second half.

Austin Fitts scored on a 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, and Chaudrion Hughes scored the final touchdown on a 17-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Hamburg scored first on a 49-yard punt return by Jessie Hampton in the second quarter.

DeWitt (0-4, 0-1 4A-8) scored its only touchdown on a 7-yard run before the half.

PINE BLUFF DOLLARWAY 28, WARREN 20

PINE BLUFF - Three unanswered second-quarter touchdowns erased a two-touchdown deficit and spurred Pine Bluff Dollarway (2-1, 1-0 8-4A).

Warren (3-1, 0-1) had taken a 14-0 lead on an 8-yard touchdown run by Savion Gilbert and a 10-yard run by Demarkus Calbert.

But Bryant West’s 13-yard touchdown and a 58-yard touchdown pass from Tevin Tyson to Kendall Scott tied the game and Trey Daniels’ 4-yard touchdown run gave Dollarway a 22-14 halftime lead.

Allen Tatum cut the lead to 22-20 on a 14-yard run in the third quarter, but Nick Hall’s 36-yard interception return restored the lead for Dollarway.

DUMAS 35, LAKE VILLAGE 6

LAKE VILLAGE - Trey Winchester scored twice to lead Dumas (3-1, 1-0 8-4A) on the road.

Jay Cobbs passed for one touchdown and Darius Foster ran for another for the Bobcats. Darion Griswold ran for a touchdown in the second half.

Lake Village dropped to 1-3, 0-1 in conference.

STAR CITY 21, MCGEHEE 13

STAR CITY - Ty Towers ran for two touchdowns as Star City (2-2, 1-0) won a 3-4A Conference game over McGehee (2-1, 0-1).

Star City took a 14-0 second quarter lead on a 3-yard run by Rashard Davis with 8:42 left and a 52-yard run by Towers with 4:57 to go in the half.

Towers rushed 17 times for 119 yards in the game.
