SWAC capsule Arkansas-Pine Bluff vs. Clark Atlanta

— WHEN 3 p.m. Central today WHERE Edward Jones Dome, St. Louis RADIO KUAP-FM, 89.7, in Pine Bluff INTERNET uapb.edu RECORDS Arkansas-Pine Bluff (0-2); Clark Atlanta (2-1) COACHES Monte Coleman (8-16 in three seasons at Arkansas-Pine Bluff); Daryl McNeil (2-1 in one season at Clark Atlanta) WHAT TO LOOK FOR The Golden Lions are three weeks into the season and still looking for their first victory. It’s not at all where Coleman thought his team would be, but their losses haven’t been embarrassing. They lost Sept. 4 to NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision member Texas-El Paso 31-10 before losing 38-31 to Alabama State, which snapped Prairie View A&M’s 15-game winning streak against league foes last week. UAPB hasn’t played since the loss to the Hornets on Sept. 11, givingColeman’s team a refreshed attitude as it plays in the Gateway Classic for the first time since 2006.

KEY FOR ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF Avoid putting its young defense in tough situations. The Golden Lions have just three players on their defense who entered this season with any sort of starting experience. Six starters from last year exhausted their eligibility and three others who were expected to start have been lost to season-ending injuries. UAPB’s green defense didn’t play poorly in the loss to Alabama State - it allowed only 258 yards - but it was put in positions to where it was hard not to give up points. Three of the Hornets’ touchdowns were set up by UAPB turnovers, including the go-ahead score in the fourth quarter. Alabama State’s eight possessions that weren’t followed by turnovers yielded just 10 points.
