Music Recital

RUSSELLVILLE — Tim Howe and Vicky Kiehl of the Arkansas Tech University Department of Music will perform a recital of music for trombone and organ at 2:30 p.m. at Central Presbyterian Church in Russellville. The public is invited. For more information, call (479) 968-0368.

TUESDAY

Prostate Screening

CONWAY — Conway physicians, nurses and technical staff; Conway High School Med Pro students; CARTI staff; and community volunteers will present information on and screen area men for prostate cancer from 4-7 p.m. at Conway Regional Medical Center. Urologists James France, M.D., and Jeff Marotte, M.D.; Thomas Reid, M.D., a hematology/oncologist; Bryan Imamura, M.D., radiation oncology; Gil Johnson, M.D., family practice; and Shawn Brewer, APN, have volunteered to conduct the ninth annual free prostate-cancer screening. The screening is sponsored by Conway Regional, Conway Urology Clinic, CARTI and the Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation. Appointments are being taken and can be made by calling Lori Reynolds, RN, Cancer Program coordinator, at (501) 513-5858 through Friday. The screening will include a 15-minute prostate-education presentation, a prostate-specific antigen blood test and a digital rectal exam.

Open House

CONWAY — Covington Classic Auto Sales will hold an open house for the public from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the new business, 1160 Collier Drive. Cars include a 1957 Chevrolet convertible and several Corvettes, including ones from 1957 and 1965.

Garage Sale

FAIRFIELD BAY — The St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church Building Committee will host a garage sale/auction on Friday and Saturday at the Parish Hall at 250 Woodlawn Drive. The sale be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The auction will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday. There will also be baked goods for sale and brats and burgers. Latin Guitarist Concerts

FAIRFIELD BAY — The North Central Arkansas Foundation for Arts & Education will kick off the 2010-2011 concert season with two concerts by world-renowned Latin guitarist David Burgess. The first event will be a Dinner Concert Buffet at Indian Hills Country Club in Fairfield Bay at 6 p.m. Saturday with a cash bar from 5-6 p.m. Burgess will perform immediately after the dinner. Tickets for the buffet are $20 and may be purchased from the Fairfield Bay Chamber of Commerce and Foundation President Lea Berry. Call (501) 253-7909. The second event will be a free concert presented by Burgess at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, in the Clinton School Auditorium, at the corner of Joe Bowling Road, Fraser and Hall streets in Clinton. On Friday, Burgess will present concerts to three area schools. All concerts for the coming season are free to the public. Private donations will be accepted and are tax deductible.

SATURDAY

ZumbaCraze

CONWAY — The Hendrix College Wellness and Athletics Center and Advanced Physical Therapy will host ZumbaCraze for a Cure. The event will take place from 8 a.m. to noon at the Hendrix College WAC. The cost for the event is $25. All proceeds will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Local Zumba instructors will lead participants in Latin and hip-hop inspired dances. Participants can drop in throughout the morning or stay for the entire ZumbaCraze. For more information on this event, call (501) 328-5878 or visit www.advancedptcenter.com. In addition to the Zumba fundraiser, the WAC will host an open house from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The community is invited to enjoy a free workout and use the swimming pool. The climbing wall, weight room and cardio room will also be open for use, and tours of the WAC will be available. Hurley Chiropractic will be present to offer free chair massages for all visitors. Free refreshments will also be provided.

Poetry Reading

RUSSELLVILLE — “Poetry & Java,” an evening of open-mike poetry readings in a family-friendly atmosphere, will begin with readings at 4:30 at Starbucks. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. Animal Blessing

MAUMELLE — The Episcopal Church in Maumelle will have a Blessing of the Animals service in honor of St. Francis of Assisi Day at 11 a.m. at Lake Willastein Park. The blessing is open to all kinds of animals, as well as pictures of animals.

Fishing Workshop

RUSSELLVILLE — Come and enjoy a day of fishing with state park staff on Lake Dardanelle. During this four-hour workshop, the staff will discuss sport-fish identification, local fishing hotspots and the most popular techniques anglers use to catch the lunkers. Participants will fish aboard Lake Dardanelle State Park’s new catch-and-release barge. All fishing tackle will be provided. Meet the park ranger in the classroom of the visitor center. Registration is $25. The workshop will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Make reservations in advance; seating is limited. To register, call the visitor center at (479) 967-5516.

Community Yard Sale

GREENBRIER — The Greenbrier Fall Community Yard Sale will be from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the City Event Center in Greenbrier. A pancake breakfast will be served from 6-9 a.m., and hot dogs will be served from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. All booths will be indoors in a climate-controlled environment, and plenty of parking space is available.
