SOUTHWESTERN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE: QB leads UAPB in victory

— Josh Boudreaux ran for a touchdown and threw three scoring passes to Raymond Webber as Arkansas-Pine Bluff defeated Clark Atlanta 35-19 on Saturday in the Gateway Classic.

Webber caught 11 passes for 162 yards for the Golden Lions (1-2).

Arkansas-Pine Bluff, which led Division II Clark Atlanta (2-2) by a point at halftime, took control during a fiveminute span in the second half. Webber had a 12-yard touchdown catch on the last play of the third quarter, and, after a Panthers turnover, he caught a 43-yard scoring pass to make the score 28-13 with 10:50 remaining.

Boudreaux was 16 of 24 for 212 yards. Justin Billings rushed for 110 yards and 1 touchdown on 9 carries for the Golden Lions.

Ronald Thompson completed 11 of 23 passes for 161 yards and 1 touchdown for Clark Atlanta, which had just 37 net rushing yards.

ALCORN STATE 41, ALABAMA STATE 21

LORMAN, Miss. - Gabriel Nash ran for 135 yards and two touchdowns to lead Alcorn State past Alabama State.

The Braves (3-0, 2-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference) fell behind early after Devin Dominguez scored on a 10-yard touchdown run to put Alabama State in front 7-0 less than two minutes into the opening quarter.

Brandon Bridge scored on a 57-yard touchdown run, Nash ran for a 12-yard score, Arturo Tamayo kicked a 32-yard field goal and Herve Tonye-Tonye returned a fumble 55 yards for a touchdown before the Hornets (3-1, 3-1) were able to score again. Terrance Lewis caught a 1-yard pass from Bridge to score the final touchdown of the first half for Alcorn State.

Nash also had a rushing score in the third quarter.

JACKSON STATE 43, MISSISSIPPI VALLEY ST. 7

JACKSON, Miss. - Casey Therriault threw for four touchdowns and Jackson State routed Mississippi Valley State.

Therriault had 374 yards on 33 for 50 passing, helping the Tigers (3-1, 1-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference) gain 460 yards of total offense.

Therriault started the scoring early on a 5-yard pass to Marcellos Wilder with 11:44 left in the first quarter.

The Delta Devils (0-4, 0-2) answered 11 seconds later on Oliver Hughes’ 57-yard touchdown pass to Paul Cox. However, it would be the only time Mississippi Valley State would find the end zone.

The Delta Devils struggled offensively, gaining just 219 yards and converting only 2 of 15 third downs.

Ryan Rich put the Tigers up 36-7 on a 74-yard interception return for a touchdown late in the third quarter. Hughes led the Delta Devils with 136 yards and a touchdown on 5 for 19 passing.

TUSKEGEE 21, TEXAS SOUTHERN 14

MOBILE, Ala. - Nykeem Barton scored on a 1-yard run with 57 seconds left to give Tuskegee a victory over Texas Southern.

Texas Southern (1-3) took over possession on its 3-yard line with 3:20 left and moved the ball out to the 17 before putting it in the hands of Arvell Nelson on second-and-11.

Nelson was sacked by Malcolm Crutchfield and fumbled, which was recovered by Brandon Mitchell on the Texas Southern 16.

Barton then ran for 5 yards three consecutive times to move the Division II Golden Tigers (3-1) down to the 1.

Barton finished with 58 yards and 3 touchdowns on 15 carries. Martin Gilbert led the Tigers with 121 yards on 19 carries.

ALABAMA A&M 34, SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY 14

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Deaunte Mason threw four touchdowns and Alabama A&M scored 34 unanswered points to beat Southern University of Baton Rouge.

The Bulldogs (2-2, 1-1) fell behind early on Gary Hollimon’s 62-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage for the Jaguars, but weren’t threatened the rest of the way.

After Chance Wilson’s 27-yard field goal, Mason threw the first of his scoring passes to give the Bulldogs the lead for good. Mason connected with Rashad Johnson for a 5-yard touchdown pass with 2:03 left in the first half.

Mason finished with 294 yards of total offense, including 221 yards on 17 for 29 passing. The Jaguars (1-2, 0-1) had just 218 yards of offense.
