BATESVILLE — Volunteer dog walkers will walk at 8 a.m. Thursdays at the North Complex Park in Batesville. Walkers anticipate moving the time to 9 a.m. later in the year when the weather gets colder. The group walks shelter dogs at the Humane Society of Independence County.
Call Lynn at (501) 251-4145) or Sue at (501) 307-5305 to volunteer. Those interested in volunteering are encouraged to call the afternoon or evening before they want to walk so shelter staff will know how many dogs and puppies to have ready for walking and what kind of dog is best suited for the walker.
The first lap, the dogs are excited and getting used to collars, leashes, etc. The second lap, walkers try a little obedience training, mainly teaching the dogs to sit and giving them love and attention.
