Medical center hosts free program

— A free continuing-education program, “Alzheimer’s Disease and Caregiver Stress,” will be given at the White County Medical Center South Campus, 1200 Main St. in Searcy.

The program will be from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday for all interested health-care professionals.

Registration will begin at 10:15 a.m.

Featured speakers will include Penny Rogers with St. Bernard’s Senior Health Clinic, who will speak on “Management of Alzheimer’s Disease” and Melanie Hinchey, RN, education outreach specialist with the Center on Aging-Northeast, who will discuss “Recognizing Caregiver Stress.”

The program on Alzheimer’s disease will begin with a review of the evidence-based approaches to manage Alzheimer’s symptoms and will discuss evidence-based treatments for all stages of Alzheimer’s.

The caregiver stress portion of the program will define the role of a caregiver, list three causes of caregiver stress, explain the definition of caregiver “burnout” and identify three agencies or associations that provide resources for caregivers.

Lunch will be provided by White County Medical Center. Register by Friday.
